I really like the look of Bermuda shorts and knee socks with jacket and tie, as they are worn for business on the Island of Bermuda.

Though this would be difficult to pull off anywhere else but there.

Frankly, I don't think they pull it off there. It looks like they forgot their pants and are wandering around in boxers.

And changing the subject back to myself (I am a tenor, what do you expect) this summer as often as not, I ended up wearing white, linen blend shorts (not cargo) and a white shirt (sleeves rolled), along with a braided belt, deck shoes, and a panama or linen cap. It was a concession to the wearing of shorts, but it was a nice look.

:eusa_clap to your first comment, Edward, and :D to your second. Even here in the States we're familiar with those British public school traditions.

If it were not for the Elizabethan building in the background you could be on the North Shore of Sydney.

If I am not mistaken, a form of shorts where "standard" Officer wear for Military use by British Officers and Troops. Now I have to say I would think the "gentlemen" attitude and proper mannerisms that these men generated could not be overlooked at all.

If you have "senator leghorn" looking legs and think wearing shorts is not attractive, I can understand that.

For the men wearing the long over the calf socks and suits with shorts, not my thing and it makes them look off balance in appearances. In reality it almost looks like they forgot their dress pants and left the house wearing their skivvies.

I think for myself, not judging anyone else really, I wear nice silk dress shorts, pleated, with NON print silk shirts in a solid color, nice deck/boat shoes and feel that I have done so with some slight amount of "flair" to what I am wearing. Naturally the nice Straw hat helps that along.

How about these original 1950s shorts:

currently on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-50s-Men-Walking-Hiking-Shorts-Heavy-Khaki-Cotton-Waist-30-32-/150824446030?pt=UK_Men_s_Vintage_Clothing&hash=item231dd6684e

In terms of reproductions, I suppose it depends what period/style you want. In the UK the most popular style was military surplus, certainly through the 1950s/1960s (if family photos of hikers etc are anything to go by). My dad still wore his old army shorts until the late 1970s (having been issued them in 1947) you can buy that style through military reproduction companies:

Classic vintage shorts were simply regular trousers cut to a short length and then finished with cuffs. No special patterns required......
