Vintage roadside

A news story this morning about a neighborhood up in arms concerning a zoning case that would replace one of the last remaining vintage buildings with a four-story apartments/retail complex made me think of another building in this village (Galloway Missouri) lost to history.

This is the building facing demolition.

Back in the '90s, City code compliance gave me a lead on a 1930s bike shop that
was to be removed.
Paid a visit and hauled away with as many bike parts I could stuff in my '80s Buick Riviera before the place was demolished
by the city caterpillars.
This without a doubt has got to be the
best day for the bike-a-holic that I am.

Can't believe I grew up in NJ and never heard of her until yesterday (on a cable TV show that billed her as "the first roadside attraction" which I'm sure can be challenged):

When first built in 1881:

Later as a hotel:

In need of repair:

And happily restored today:

What am I doing now: trying to find a way to justify a very long trip from NYC to see her.
