Vintage Reproduction Sports Coats

Seriously, I would still suggest the vintage option. A buddy of mine is 6'4" and has tons of vintage suits. RL and J. Petermen sportcoats can get pricey and, IMHO, unless you spend some really major bucks on fabric, nothing modern will look that vintage.

I see 40 - 42s with 26"+ sleeves on a fairly regular basis on eBay. If you get a reproduction made make sure the suiting is at least a 12oz weight.

There's a new company which I happened to get a look at some of their wares, called Prohibiton Clothing stationed right here in Brooklyn. The owner who dresses in perfect period reproduction 1930's garb from head to toe, sells a nice selection of made to measure belted back, and classic db suits along with slacks, ties, newsboy caps and flat caps. These are probably some of the best reproductions I've seen. Where in Brooklyn is the shop located? The repro ties on Ebay are too long and need to be shortened at least 8-10".

Well, it looks like you will have to go made-to-measure, or bespoke because nobody but nobody offers off-the-rack reproductions for sports coats. this is primarily because, unless you want something with rare details, plain ol' vintage sports coats are perhaps the easiest vintage garment to find, in any size. There is a market for off the rack reproduction short ricky jackets and 1940s-1950s leisure jackets, but not for sports coats. Why not just find modern sports coats that pass, like Ralph Lauren or something?

Yes, if you're careful you can find a lot of more recent jackets that will pass. With what is in the stores currently, that's easier for early-mid fifties (narrower lapels) or English-style lapels on traditional tweed jackets and things like that (which don't, based on my experience, seem to have varied an awful lot over the years). If Fifties is your thing, I have found before now that if you're careful you can often find really nice stuff from that early Eighties fifties-revival period that works wonderfully well for a Fifties look at a significantly lower price than genuine Fifties originals. Also, the larger sizes are more readily found in those than the originals.

How is the sizing on those? Specifically, if I want a 45-46" jacket chest measurement, should I order a size 42 or a 44? What I suppose I'm asking is are the jacket sizes the size of the jackets or of the person for whom they are designed? I really fancy the look of that Thirties-style blue blazer, but I don't want to get the sizing wrong on an international order....

Yes! I tried on their newsboy cap and was quite impressed! They make their caps so that they have structure when you put them on, so they keep their roundness. They even make their ivy/flat caps the proper wider shape too. They're a little too pricey for me though.
