Trying to identify the flag among the 27 designs used in order to date the pic. There appears to be 26 stars in 4 rows of 7, 6, 6, & 7 stars making it the flag used from July 4th, 1837 - July 3rd, 1845, known as the Michigan flag.

In the 1950’s he would have already been smoking behind the shed. Within 5 yrs he would have been drinking beer if he had a source to buy it.
