Made in the USA of excellent materials, seriously sturdy construction, and numerical sizing, L.L. Bean's old-school Flying Tigers jackets used to be the best value leather jackets around!
Now, unfortunately, they're made overseas, have alpha sizing (S, M, L, &c) , and the quality has taken a dive.
Luckily, there are still plenty of the original USA-made jackets around--these were built to last, and last they did!
This jacket is one of the old-school jackets. Made in the USA, this is a size 42L--and it fits true to size. It's also one of the shearling lined models, with a mouton collar--the very best that Bean offered.
Made from garment-grade goatskin that's extremely tough yet very pliable and comfortable, this lovely jacket is lined in thick shearling, with a lovely dark brown mouton collar. The jacket features two deep front pockets with snap-down flaps, which include side-entry handwarmer pockets. It also features a snap-shut interior security pocket.
The collar can be flipped up, and closed at the front with a fully functional throat latch. Unlike many civilian versions of light jackets, Bean's Flying Tigers jackets do not have full knit cuffs. Instead, their cuffs are leather-backed, making them far more durable than similar jackets.
The jacket closes with a wonderfully fluid and sturdy heavy-duty USA-made Scovill zipper with a classic "paperclip" pull. The zipper is in perfect working order--this puts Aero to shame!
The jacket's condition is Very Good. I has a couple of small blemishes on the goatskin, but nothing worth noting. It does have some verdigris on the pocket snaps, and one of them no longer works, although you can't tell this visually. There's a tiny snag on one of the cuffs. All these flaws are pictured!
This is ready to carry you through several decades of hard, comfortable wear!
