I went to a great estate sale a couple of months ago and apparently the husband used to work for the advertising dept of Lane Bryant in the mid-50's. I got a lovely hat box and a few lithographic plates. I'm going to be taking printmaking this fall, so maybe if I have spare time I can print up some of the fashion plates and scan them for you guys!
Wow, those are great! What really stands out is that the styles look quite fashionable. Today's LB catalog (or the newly named WomanWithin) and Roamans may have a couple nice suits or Sunday dresses, but the for the most part, are jeans, frumpy track suits or frumpy knit t-shirt dresses.
Wow, those Lane Bryant dresses from the 50s and 30s are gorgeous and love seeing these dresses on a larger silouette. hmmm, some serious inspiration in these pages.
Did anyone else laught ater looking at the order form? They actually asked for a letter of explanation to order something if you and your husband weren't working full time. I wonder if that had anything to do with the Great Depression.
I saw the blue dress in this picture on eBay!!!! I fell in love with it, but it was a bit too big for me, and I'm not proficient enough of a seamstress to attempt to take it in to fit. It was so hard to let it go!
I don't know how I missed this the first time around but these scans are great! I especially love how they draw/photograph the clothes on the correct size model so you can actually see how the items looks--none of this nonsense about putting a size 22 dress on a size 12 model the way they do now. I'm hoping for more scans too.
This catalog has the most stylish dresses Ive ever seen. I love that all the models look larger, with their in style cherub faces. Its a great feeling to know that I can fit everything in the catalog. I love it!
I want the coat in the lower left corner *so* bad!
