Thanks for showing the inside - that's some seriously well made and fitted lining there. Looks older than I thought. I would have said 1960's-70's.

Is it a heavy jacket?

I have just been on french military forums, and this is definitely a french military stamp, they call it the "acceptance stamp".
The date shows the year that this specific piece of gear was issued.

I am looking for the meannig of the SFH1 acronim, will let you know if i find something.

Ever seen some of the American Civil War uniforms?

Ooh, right! That's some class right there. Tho I find Mexican War ones to be even nicer! Not that there's anything nice about anything war related but that was some cool infantry gear.
