This sure has been very interesting information, and education for me! Apparently there are some skilled folks out there with mis-guided passions and thirst for profit who seem to be taking advantage of folks via deception about facts vs. theory. Very good points made about patina, seems that that is as important of an inspection point Inside the jacket as outside, given what's been indicated here. Thanks for the assistance, I certainly would not have known where to start...

I can compare the questionable label with the other Californians and a couple of new Californian from BK and GW.

The questionable jackets have one other thing in common. both have been in Italy.

My jacket came from a buyer who got it from a seller in Italy. That is all I recall. I've had comments about that jacket/auction on here I believe. Maybe from youtube.

I'm not angry or disillusioned or feel cheated. The jacket itself has been forgotten with the focus on the label. The jacket is pretty nice without the label. This is also a jacket I believe Dave Sheely attributed to Monarch of Milwaukee. Monarch is another well respected label that is being reproduced.

A California Sportswear label fits this jacket, would not fit or look correct on less quality jacket.

Wow, I remember that one. And yes those cinches look signature Monarch

Dave just wrote me after reading this. Yes, this is a Monarch of Milwaukee made jacket. The lack of a label does not diminish the Quality of the jacket. Dave knows a Monarch when he sees one.

Thanks to Charles for his informative post. I will certainly look more closely. Just never thought there was enough interest in Civlian jackets to consider forgery. Military items and the such, yes. Perhaps that means Civilian jackets are getting more attention.

I've gotten some interesting jacket forensics from Dave and now Charles. Great Stuff!

Other than a couple of folks here I'm not aware of other collectors and buyers of vintage leather jackets. I know they are out there. Don't know what they like; labels, styles, colors, leathers.

I don't know who is re-labeling, but they could have used a Monarch label to be more accurate!

This has been more fun than reading a good mystery novel, or watching Hercule Poriot. I'm beginning to think he actually may be French after all.

price and Counterfeit Jacket or not, my rule of thumb when in doubt is always look for the Jackets that show wear through thousands of hours of wear. Otherwise I'd keep my distance.
