I wear glasses some days. Mostly I wear contacts.

While not vintage in age these are absolutely vintage in style.

I've got the Fairmount frames with clip on sunglass lenses. I get compliments all the time. While not inexpensive they are extremely well made.

They also have two other vintage styles. Check them out TFL friends !

I have just noticed here lately maybe cause i'm getting older, out of all my glasses the Browline frames look best with fedora hats. They really give that old school look that goes with old school hats.

Just got these B&L's to see if I like the style. Just need to straighten out the arms and they are ready to get new lenses.

Here's a pair I saw in a movie. Not vintage but I love the style. Wish I could ID them.
Any ideas?

These are my daily drivers, very nice true vintage browline glasses made by Whitney. Awesome browish color design. I always forget to take "before" pictures but I purchased these and some black ones at an antique store both for 3$. They were a nasty corroded dirty mess. I lightly sanded the plastic with fine sand paper working my way up to 12000 grit, then lacquered them to give a shine. I cleaned up the corrosion off the hinges with a Dremel wire brush wheel. I think they turned out great! They don't have lens in them, but most people don't even notice ;)

Added some more today, from goodwill. Found some very neat french sunglasses, also took a picture of my collection thus far. I think the collection is complete, although I would like to get some round black horn rimmed ones just like Harrold Lloyd wore...and maybe a monocle just for the fun of it!

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post about vintage sunglasses; if it isn't please point me to the proper thread.

Does anyone know if there's any rule of thumb whether vintage aviator sunglasses, i.e. WWII an-6531 type shades with glass lenses have any kind of UV protection? AFAIK vintage plastic lenses offer little to no UV protection, and you can easily ruin your eyes wearing them regularly. Are vintage tinted glass lenses any different?

My understanding is that until the 1960s, protection from UV rays wasn't something the military paid close attention to when creating specs for pilot sunglasses. By the 1980s, it was nailed down and required. I would go on the assumption that any sunglasses manufactured before 1970 and with their original lenses aren't going to offer much UV protection, and if this is a concern, the lenses should be updated with modern materials.
