Vintage Date???

So I have met an awesome lady who is very into vintage clothing, we have agreed to a vintage date on Wednesday, and I decided to go with something late 40s early 50s casual, but I'm having trouble, as most of my clothes are suited for colder weather, and the date is in Charleston, South Carolina. So here is what I was thinking and I am still very open to suggestions.

I was thinking:
light khaki chino pants
with a light blue chambray
brown leather shoes (loafers perhaps)
straw bucket hat (the type that some people call a fedora but really it isnt)
my 1940s aviators.

Do you think this ensemble would be appropriate for a vintage date, being casual yet true to the theme?

What was considered a bucket style hat by some is what the younger generation today considers a "fedora" though it isnt a true fedora, its in the same fashion but a smaller brim, you see a lot of really crappy ones being sold at walmart.

The fact that you're concerned how you'll come off and worried enough to ask questions, tells me that you are already a sweet person. I'm sure it'll go fine

Let us know how everything goes. As for the bucket hat, I just hate those hats. It does serve a better use as a bucket than as a hat. I just dont like narrow brims. Just be yourself and you will be just fine.

Great advice! To be honest, I am sure any of your vintage clothes that are clean and fit well will be fine, as you'll still look smarter than everyone else. I didn't pay any attention to what my husband was wearing on our first dates, as we had such a good time it didn't matter. He was interesting, polite and kind - that's what matters.

The outfit should work fine. I would just take off the aviators soon and not hide behind em. You gotta look a nice gal straight into her eyes.

Oh and maybe a vintage tie but I don't know which would good with chambray. Maybe bowtie or knit tie?

Since you're soliciting opinions, I'm going to agree with the Big Man on this one, based on the following facts: 1) You say she's really into vintage clothing, and 2) she agreed to, possibly even suggested, a vintage date. This seems like the kind of girl who's going to be impressed by one of your suits. Now, you say that most of your clothing is suited for cold weather so I'm going to assume that you don't have anything linen. Still, if you pick a light-colored suit in your loosest weave and wear an undershirt under your shirt so that you don't sweat into it, you should be fine. If you do get hot you can carry your jacket rakishly over one shoulder. Apart from that, yeah, what everyone else said about being a nice person blah blah. Gentlemen blah. It's the inside that counts or whatever. It's not the inside, it's the SUIT. No I'm just joking, it is the inside. If you go with your original outfit I'm sure you'll be fine, just be confident but without being a dick. I have no tips for that though because I'm always hopelessly shy or I overcompensate and act like a dick. So good luck.

Bingo. Put some effort into looking put together, then forget about what you look like. Being a gentleman and having fun are the two biggest things you can do to ensure a second date. And for the record, a big fancy dinner out is the single WORST thing you can do for a first date. You're both on edge and worried about food in your teeth and whether or not you're using the correct fork. It's a lousy way to get to know someone. I prefer museums (that's where my man and I went for our first), or something that's impossible to take too seriously, like mini-golf or bowling. I'm sure you'll make a wonderful impression!

Chas: I had the same first thought, but I think what he means is that their date will have a vintage theme or style, and that that'll want to do something and go places as old fashioned as possible. Nice idea.
