Vintage Creatives

I always enjoy seeing vintage pictures of painters, writers, musicians etc. as they often dress a bit more eccentric. Sometimes they look very modern, doing away with ties and the like. Or they dress super sharp. But either way, always interesting and a bit different.

Some pictures to get started:

Salvador Dali and Luis Bunuel, 1930:

Maurice Ravel, 1925

Does anyone else have any favourite dressers among the artists?

Good idea for a thread, wow Dali looks like Deniro in Taxi Driver in the first one!! So anachronistic.

I'm not familiar with the work of either of them, but found these pictures while searching for other stuff and thought that they would fit in this thread.

Some great looks so far. Really like that Otto Dix outfit and Mervyn Peakes busy patterned sweater is great.

I must say I like the overall as well. It seems it is actually his own design, or at least this one is:

Dosti, i just found this photo in a folder, and was about to post it but see you beat me to it. strange how oddly modern Schiele looks for 1913; his hair, the soft collar out over jacket, even the skinny trousers with huge turn ups (which look almost like rockabilly-jeans turn ups). only the long straight jacket is a giveaway. he was way ahead of his time, in art and in style (he's a personal art hero of mine).

Oh, yes I agree. Even if his works don't directly appeal to me. I think he could still walk around in that outfit today and not look out of place. Even if the jacket might be a bit eccentric.

This photo is interesting too, from a book about Dutch painter Willem Schrofer (who is on the right): a suit with shorts (at least the jacket and shorts seem to be the same fabric). From 1942.
