Hi all,

I took the plunge on this vintage 50s? blue horsehide bomber jacket. I know it is probably not everyone's cup of tea...but it being what I imagine a more rare color and horsehide to boot, I just couldn't pass it up. It has a blue vintage talon zip as well..though the pictures I have do not represent it very well.

Has anyone seen or heard of this "Durable" brand before? I noticed in Mr. Himel's blog a quick excerpt, but that was about it.

Cheers,
Mario

Actually, I dig it. It sounded kinda yuck but it's nice.
Had it been new, I'd probably not feel that way, but broken in, it's cool.
Good catch.

Super cool broken in!
Might want to give Wade a call at Insurrection.

It's a good blue. Almost the police blue over here. They used to wear dark blue leather in Melbourne.

Also looks like the blue of those old French pilot jackets.

I've seen lot's of blue ones over the years - not all that different to black really. How are the knits?

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm really new to collecting vintage leather, so this was my first seeing a vintage blue horsehide. They should have made more in this color!

I don't have it yet, but based off the photos, I'm thinking the wrist knits might need to be replaced at some point. If you look closely at the photos, you'll see they appear to have a few holes. I'll probably just wear it like that though until I can't stand it anymore. :)

Does it have a denim look? Reminds me of the Levis' sherpa lined trucker jackets. Those were toasty in cold weather.

She's a beauty. Love the blue hide and the patina. One doesn't see this color often. Wear it in good health and welcome to leather jacket collecting. Its a disease without a cure!

I've run into this brand before during my collecting days. Here are a couple of Durable brand jackets on e-bay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Durable-vin...otorcycle-jacket-black-perfecto-/180731307029

The jackets look to be circa 1950's vintage. The first could even be late 1940's.

From what I can tell I don't think so, but might look different in other lighting.

Your absolutely right, this hobby is my worse addiction yet...But oh so fun. Thanks for the those ebay links, them are some nice looking jackets!

I had an identical horse hide jacket in the same blue made by Grais. Fantastic jacket!

Hey deluxe was it hard to find an outfit to match your blue jacket? It's a shame you got rid of it! Would have been great to see it.

It wasn't for me, I bought it for my girlfriend but it didn't fit her so she gave it to a best friend who was a touch smaller.

If it was mine I'd wear it with everyday stuff like jeans and boots. The colour wouldn't bother me one bit!
