You know, Aristaeus, it's interesting how many posts echo your thoughts. I wouldn't give up my time in the Service for a million bucks, either, despite the not-so-good times it included.

Not all. Allthough I have the utmost respect for the greatest generation, I remember I found national service both stupid, booooring and a waste of time. My time.

Not a WWII veteran - but I did my bit in the armed forces back in the 60's. You may hug me anytime, I don't scare easily.

It was a privilege and an honor to have been able to serve in the USAF for a tad over 25 years. I was an Airman First Class, while walking down a basement corridor in Headquarters Strategic Air Command, it suddenly came over me the knowledge that I was doing exactly what I was meant to do with my life.

I roamed the halls of Bldg 500 for 5 years (84-89) as a SAC Elite Guardsman. What years were you there?
