Check with your local Panera, some are giving away free coffee and cookies. Olive Garden is doing a free entree from a special menu like Applebee's. TGIFriday's is as well.

Yes. Thanks to all who serve! Your sacrifice allows me to live in a great country. Last year I was in Canada for Remembrance Day. I wore a poppy.

I believe Denny's also has a free entree from a limited menu.

Thank you to all the veterans for their service and to their families who support them.

Today my university also recognizes the victims of Pam-Am Flight 103 as part of their Lockerbie bombing Rememberance Week.

Wow...My Son and I went to Texas RoadHouse at 1pm and waited for over and hour for a table. The place was packed..barely room to stand. All kinds of Vets ..VFW..Legion...Nam...WW2 caps..jackets and vests everywhere. I ordered the Vet lunch steak. The waitress said that I was the only one of her customers to order the special. Must not have been advertized very well. Today it had just become a meeting place for US Vets of probably every branch. A young man who looked in his 20s came in and hugged his Father and GrandFather as we stood in line. As we waited..he turned and asked me if I served..and what branch. Later I ordered iced tea with my meal...when a large tanker of beer arrived as well. I looked up as that same young man saluted me from across the room. A little guy probably 5' 5"..130 lbs...wearing a WW2 cap and BS patch came by..stopped..and firmly shook 'my' hand. I was wearing no Army insignia...but there were handshakes throughout the steak house. I swear there was mainly WW2 and Korean Vets. Mainly grey hairs..oops..and now that even includes me!:eusa_doh: At ease...:eek:hwell::wink::usa2:

The ruins of the golden era.
In Flanders Fields and Other Poems by John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
