OK fellas, I have to say that in no way was I actually even in a remote manner SERIOUS about any ANTI-ball cap position, opinion or otherwise paramilitary activity. I mean seriously reread my post.... It was meant in a HA HA manner. Not Ha, Ha get a rope, Grrrr! I mean I even created a cheesy little B-movie cult chant for pete-sake.

As such I do offer a humble apology for causing our moderators any difficulties. I would also suggest folks take a deep breath, lay off the coffee and step away from the computer. Are folks on this forum really wound that tight where they think I was in anyway trying to strike out against their freedom?

C-mon boys and girls, my-post-was-for-fun. Nothing more.

I'm sorry, it was the cheesy anti baseball cap league thread.
Again NOT supposed to be serious and just for the record this is also written in a very affable tone.

Who knows, maybe I should post smiley faces all over my posts from now on?

Not to worry, Rats. I got it. It was a nudge to ballcappers, not a serious crusade to attack anyone. It was just a ribbing.

I think people these days don't understand a lot of things about society and too many have a self-defeating anything-goes-and-you-can't-criticize-me mentality. I mean, if there were no standards of social behavior, we'd have no hobby in the first place, here, because hats would never have been as popular as they were in the day. Remember, the whole reason there were hats is because it was etiquette not to go about bare headed. It was the social norm.

Now, if we were to make a new social norm that argued against ball caps, why that is our right to advocate for it. Certainly it is the right of anyone that opposes the idea to argue against it. But, you see, the way society works, one side or the other would win the argument with the public. There is nothing un-American at all about arguing for community standards from which peer pressure emerges. It's how all societies work. Even our liberty-based one.

But everyone is running around today so full of "their rights" that they are far too sensitive to everything, though. Too often many don't understand where their rights end and others' begin.

Anyway, I did understand you were just joking. It was pretty obvious to me.

On the other hand, the discussion was veering off in the wrong direction, so the lock was probably a good idea. People were taking things far too seriously.

Thanks partner.. I appreciate that.

The funny thing is that I wear a ball cap on the range and sometimes on duty. Hell, I'll even wear an old Milwaukee Braves hat when I go to the game. So in no way was I trying to be all GRRRRrrrr and waving a temperance banner. I just thought it would allow some jokes.

Yes... my name is Rats and I wear a baseball cap................sometimes.

No hard feelings

Heaven forbid opinions differ on any possible topic. It's most ungentlemanly to jump immediately to outrage when someone holds an opinion contrary to yours.

Whatever happened to "I might not agree with what you say but I will fight to the death to defend your right to say it.?

Perhaps Voltaire should have added "until they invent the Internet in which case outrage is entirely appropriate between those who differ."

Come on guys. Civil discussion between different points of view expand all of our horizons.

Submitted with all due respect.

Oh, what a hair-breadth's line we walk in the PC world. :eeek:
I think that it's also the knee jerk reaction, because let's face it; we don't want to offend folks nor do we want to be offended in a public forum. E-mail and the internet is such a crappy way to communicate because unless you really put forth the effort, you can't emphasis your "tone" in an e-mail. Leaving it up to the reader to decide for themselves. I've done it myself and will probably do it again without intending to. I'm just glad folks understand that it was all for fun and nothing more.....

However, I will wage war against socks with sandals!

Just kidding! Just kidding!!;)

It certainly would have helped in this case as over the years much animosity has been directed at ball caps here on the FLounge. Of course being new here you might not know that.......just as many of us were unaware of your dry wit; something that does not translate well on the interweb without the use of smileys. ;)

I was a bit surprised to see both threads closed. I was reading the threads as if everyone was having a fun time. When I posted in the anti anti-league thread, I was sure having fun!

I enjoyed the "not really serious" aspect of the poll but am not surprised at the locking of the post. There are folks here who are "very serious" about what are the "real hats" and sadly they can take something as you posted and cause it to go in the wrong direction. Just put that "ball cap" on your head and keep on truckin' :) ( but please, wear it bill side to the front :) )
