Vents

I have noticed in films from the 40's and early 50's that men's jackets don't have vents.

I have always wondered if this was the fashion at the time, or something they did in Hollywood films for a cleaner line.

My own jackets have gone from center vent, to side vents, to no vents. I know they are supposed to relieve stress when you sit down, but I never keep a jacket on in the office anyway, for all of the reasons Matt has described in other posts.

I've noticed even in modern movies, men's jackets usually don't have vents. I think it's just considered a sleeker look.

I think it's the way to go (it may depend on your body type) since few men wear their jackets when they sit down anyway. And when they do, they're usually unbuttoned. So there's no problem with "bunching".

If you like the look, it's not a big deal to get a center-vented altered to no vent.
