Hello!

It is commonly known that velvet collars are used for overcoats, especially Chesterfields:

Also some know that velvet collars can be used for dress coats, too (here is not a full dress, but also a dress coat):

Now I go further. What do you think about using a velvet collar not only for aforementioned garments, but also for morning coat or lounge coat? There are no pictures of the first, but you can imagine it; as for the latter, here are some photos:

Velvet cuffs are also an interesting concept:

It's an interesting idea, though as your pictures show it works best with more casual sport coats. Personally I quite like velvet (I'm wearing it right now as a matter of fact) but I prefer to keep on on smoking jackets and chesterfield collars.

I think it is acceptable for velvet on a heavy coat or some sort. A dress coat I think is okay but I don't think a morning coat is okay for a velvet collar. It would look odd...

velvet collar with matching cuffs feels alittle to late 60s early 70s i have seen some suits and formal wear with details that are borrowed from suits, tuxes and morning wear, ranging from the victorianand , edwardian 20s, 30s that were from the 60s and 70s of course not as flattering or classy looking and were just plain awful lol !!

on a edwardian to roaring 20s era chesterfied overcoat its perfect with out going overboard ,the cuffs may be to much of goodthing !! unless done properly with class you also may remember velvet collars and cuffs on 50s smoking jackets and also jackets with those details were populer with the teddy boy scene in england during the late 50s to mid 60s and then later during many rockabilly revivals since .

I tend to think of them more as a trim for covert coats rather than chesterfields but I'm not sure if they are very common outside the UK.
