Hmmm. Didn't think they did them in HH anymore, but the two hides are almost identical. In fact, it was worked out in recent years that some A2's are actually steer not HH. Many Vanson can tell you.
The HH Vansons that I have seen have had a horsehide label. Also, Vansons horsehide was overdyed, so with use the black wore off and a brown color showed through. Their cowhide is tanned differently, no brown under the black topcoat there..
That was before. I'm 99% certain that the earlier, over-dyed stuff was made by Horween. Later HH is dyed all the way through and it's available only in Japan (though it's been a long while since their site has been updated so who knows...). Anyway, all of their HH jackets have a horsehide label like this:
