during a discussion today, i remembered this thread. we were talking about "the scariest movies ever".
both "The Exorcist" and "Alien" got popular nods.
strangely, i saw both when i was less than ten years old and found both boring and predictable even then. i can still remember thinking that "The Exorcist" was funny, and that while watching "Alien" (with my parents opening weekend) i hoped that the monster would just eat the lady so she would stop running around and yelling.
conversely, "The Ring" terrified me and made sleep difficult for about three days. something about the Japanese ability to make the most mundane things scary.
