Very curious to see how this turns out... please be sure to take some proper 'Before' & 'After' pics with same lighting & backdrop in each.
good advice here. Looks like the top coat is gone. Is the finish more "suede" feeling? Definitely consult an expert in restoring.Stay away from the wax on this one. Because of the loss of the finish, I would contact Dave Sheeley (@Maverickson). He restores these as well as makes new jackets. There might be more going on and you don’t want to “seal in” any problems.
No, more like a hard coating...I think of some of those acrylic sprays for protecting artwork done in pastels. There is no ingredient list. Blackrock has Carnauba wax and is a different finish and look. With the wax based ones you need to buff or brush to get a shine. With Urad it is just there when it dries. So Urad is wax?
From this SDS document, it looks to be some sort of rosin mixture suspended in turpentine and other solvents. Kind of like varnish. Not a lot of stuff in here that would help the leather if it's dried out and needs more fat liquoring IMO. If I were to use URAD for its appearance, but wanted to condition the leather, I would use a different product like Bick 4 (very light conditioner) or Pecards (heavier conditioner) first, and then follow up with URAD.So Urad is wax?
I have actually liked how Urad changes the appearance of worn leather in pictures people have posted, but I think it's helpful to understand what many of these leather products actually do. Maybe Urad is good for sealing leather with compromised finishes? IDK exactly. I personally like to use wax based products like Otterwax Leather Salve or Venetian Shoe Cream to get a glossy look on some of my leather boots/shoes, but they aren't exactly great conditioners because they just deposit a layer of bee or carnauba wax on the surface.Resin, this makes sense and confirms my feelings about the product. Thank you.
I will try it on wood. It might work really well for some projects around the house.
