UK Loungers - This snowy jacket weather is great, until...

Had been somewhat enjoying this heavy jacket weather here in the UK, plenty of beautiful skies and sunny days - perfect to get out and enjoy the snow in a sheepskin.

Sadly that all ended tonight, when Storm Emma hit our area. It managed to bring down a gigantic tree from a neighbours garden, which has totally crushed our carport, and destroying our 3 month old Mercedes SLC underneath. It’s totally kaput. Of course, thank god nobody was hurt - that’s the main thing - but it stings a lot.

Suddenly I’m not so keen on winter anymore. Please bring Spring soon... :(

To fellow Loungers in the UK, please stay safe!

Don't bother looking out, the snow is up to two feet deep across the New Forest. Yesterday the weather was starting to close in, despite that my wife ventured out because she wanted to keep a hospital appointment. She made that in good time but coming home took just under four hours to cover 15 miles.
Meacham, sorry to hear about your car, just a heads up, do take as many photos of it from every angle that you can. you will find that very useful when you claim against your insurance. Something similar happened to me about 18 years ago when high winds brought down an apple tree. The insurers finally paid out but they were extremely belligerent about it.

Should an insurer ever pay out willingly, rapidly & with a smile, you'll know they've been visited by the ghost of christmas yet to come...

One day the Devil met an insurer & told him;
" I'm going to make you the biggest insurer there has ever been, you'll earn more each year than Bill Gates & Larry Page combined ......In exchange I'll take the souls of your wife & children who will spend eternity with me in hell. "
" Sounds OK"
Replied the insurer " but where's the catch ?"

I'm sorry for the damage you've suffered and I'm glad no one got hurt.
We have had many problems in Italy too.
The "BURAN" from Siberia, that you call "The Beast from the East" in UKf, ound us unprepared.
For three days, from Monday until yesterday, we had a cold that we were not used to. Almost all high-speed trains have been suppressed and there have been circulation problems all over Italy.
I live in Napoli and work every day in Roma: I usually spend an hour on the way and one on the return by high-speed trains. On these three days the trains had an average of three hours of delay!
Today, ended the cold, it started to rain!
I hope that at least you had insurance for damages due to weather accidents!
Good luck

Thanks everyone. Lots of neighbours here also suffering big damage - still can’t believe they didn’t even predict this storm would hit our part of the country!

Of course the main thing is that nobody was hurt, and luckily we were out in another car - if we’d stayed home both cars would have been crushed!

Home insurance are on it already, so hopefully we can get this cleared and moved soon.

Rather spectacularly, I ventured as far into the rubble as possible and it looks like the roof didn’t collapse completely over the car...I still think it may be a write off, but you never know. The tricky part of course will be getting the car out!

Crikey!!! What a mess!!! Better metal than people!! Thank goodness!!

Hopefully insurance sorted, things put right & back to normal.... pronto.

Good weather for shearling, D-1 has been on duty & thoughts of a B3 planted (unfortunately).

The 'Beast from the East' appears to have started up again, haven't been near my car since yesterday morning..time to break out the brandy!

Just seen pics on news of the auto damage over the last couple of days on our highways & byways...saw my first snow-plough for a while too (in the flesh)

Me last night out in Bath in a brief respite from the 'Beast'

Seems this has been an unusually wretched winter for a number of Lounge members but a light at the end of the tunnel is almost in sight. @MeachamLake so sorry to hear of your calamity.
