Type of tweed?

I've really been enjoying the second season of Boardwalk empire. One of the characters, Richard Harrow, has been wearing a nice suit: practical, stylish. A big part of the reason why it's such a nice suit is the fabric. It's a certain type of tweed: a flecked variety. I've been looking around the internet for flecked tweed, but most of the results seem to be flecked herringbone. This type of tweed seems to not really have an obvious pattern, and looks... fuzzy. Here's a picture of Harrow in it, sorry for the low resolution.

(Harrow's seems to be the thickest of the three)

I agree. It looks very much like Donegal, especially Donegal of the period. Today's is lighter and softer but still very attractive.

It's Donegal in style, though if memory serves, like Harris and the Islands, to be truly Donegal tweed and carry that mark it has to be woven in Donegal, Ireland.

hmmmm. Tweed with flocking. Could be Donegal, could be not. Manx tweed often has a lot of flocking too. Oatmeal, i've seen an awful lot of fabrics described as oatmeal. I sold a sportscoat to Marc C. that was, to my mind, the PERFECT fabric to be described as oatmeal. Cream wide herringbone with dark brown flocking. And buttery soft to the touch. A beautiful jacket - maybe he has a pic of the fabric?

I'd say that, if you were searching for it on t' internets, Donegal would serve you well as a search term, though it may not be absolutely accurate for the tweed you're searching for.

I've been finding "plain" tweed that fits the bill. Sort've has a mild flecking.
