Snazzy hat!

Hahahahah! Not quite but I have a few pictures of my two toned Dobbs Gamebird from the late 50s if that helps.

The idea of a two-toned hat is quite old really. They have been around before the 1940s but more as a novelty than a common place hat. I have a half straw half felt hat that I posted before. That is quite old as well. The felt on that is under the brim of the straw hat though. I had an accident with the hat and the result is too gruesome to recount. :rage: Here is how it looked before.

Notice the felt underside of the brim.Regards to all, J

Seems like a pretty snazzy hat, the style of 'ribbon' and the model name Gamebird suggests an Outdoorsman / Hunters hat. Brings to mind beautifully worked over/under shotguns.:cool2:

You are right it is an outdoor type hat. I think the colors might even blend in with the woods. ;)
Make my shotgun a Beretta. ;)

The colors are not quite true to how it is in person but you get the idea. This is a two tone green hat from the 1940s. The brim is a deep green color and the crown is an olive. The brim binding matches the color of the crown. The ribbon is just a bit darker.
I love it and wear it. The first time I wore it, I got a compliment on the hat after walking out the door just ten feet to my car. A woman was doing her morning walk and complimented the hat. To which, I said thank you and tipped my two tone. Just about everyone who sees it just can't believe it can be done so seamlessly.
So what do you think of a two tone hat now? :D

Regards,

J

FANTASTIC hat!

I wanted it more. You still would have lost. :p lol
Did I mention it fits goooooodddd? ;)
Actually, it really is the best example of a two tone that I have seen so far. I have a two tone gray Stetson but it has a raw edge. The bound edge makes it look better.
I'll have to dig that one out and take some pictures. I am sure the raw edge fans will think I am wrong. ;)

J

I asked majormoore if I could post this and the palerider that is in the other thread. I thought that it looked so cool styled that I had to show it along with the open crown ones in this thread. I really like the looks of this one, I don't know the specs or size of it but if it is 7 5/8 and unsold then let me know!:D :D

I used to date a cowgirl from Montana that had a hat I just loved. It had a straw crown with a black felt brim. I wanted her to get me one but alas, we broke up before I could take possession.

Now it's a country song.

Feraud,
My Dobbs Fifteen I just posted has the exact sweatband pattern with the "Patent Pending" marking right on the forehead portion as well. Neat.

I have several two tone felt hats in the shop, a few are western and a few are dress weight, There is not a month that goes by that someone will come in the shop and see the two tone hats and have me make one for them, right now I just got thru with a LSU hat, "purple brim, gold crown, with a gold and black 16 linge bow/ribbon."
