My point was simply that there are always those who don't see value in a new form of communication, and though they are sometimes proven right in their assessment, just as often it turns out that they were simply unable to imagine the uses other people would find for that new tool.

Some of us DO see the value in this form of viral communication. We just don't see what our OWN value proposition is. When I ask myself: "Is this going to make my daily life better or more interesting?" I come up with a big fat no. Oh, and BTW, don't let me catch any of my employees twittering during work hours... they're supposed to be working on their surreptitious pornographical skills.

What does this say, exactly? Who is CNN's target audience? (seriously, I don't know) The young and hip? lol Just kidding. Now, if somebody had tweeted that this poll was there... I will do that just now!

Well, it says right there that its not a poll, more a scope of visitors probably that day, because one of the most popular stories was Ashton Kutcher gathering over a million followers of his twitter page. :eusa_doh:
You wanna know how I know that, because its all over the news, not because I wanted to know it. So from that, Id bet the scope of people who clicked that tiny 'poll' are fairly versed in what Twitter is. If Congress is, then I think the general public is.

And for the record, Twitter users, I am in no way trying or wish to attack you or your choice of this way to network. I really dont care that much. Im saying, its gonna fade, just like everyone said "Friendster is THE thing to do. MySpace is THE thing to do. Facebook is THE thing to do!" And when those social networks loose 'coolness', people are going to jump to another network.

Too much work, really. Ive had my email addy for a loooong time, and its doing fine.

That's just about exactly what I'd say, too. It's fine for people who have a little excitement in their lives, I guess, but a typical day's twittering from me might look like --

8:07 -- Burned my eggs again. Threw them over the fence into the junkyard. Oooh, a squirrel!

9:20 -- That neighbor kid is walking his dog on my grass. Stupid beagle.

11:11 -- Those hot dogs at Wasses' Wagon smell awful good right now. I want one.

12:32 -- Ack, I wish I hadn't eaten that hot dog.

2:25 -- The cat is sleeping on the kitchen table. Sure looks comfortable. Maybe I should try that.

5:30 -- At work. Popcorn kid is late. I gotta kill that boy, I just gotta. Wonder if that cistern down the street is big enough to hide a body?

10:30 -- Home from work. The shank of the night! Mmmmmyeah, what'll it be -- All Bran or Grape Nuts?

1:00 AM -- That crack in the ceiling just moved. I better sleep downstairs.

And so on ad infinitum.

Even though i do some quite interesting things in my life, i am not vain enough to believe that anyone else should be interested.

If Twitter et al has an imposition feature wherein when I update it blasts the messages to everyone at all hours without their ability to avoid me, please tell me about it. It sounds like some great mischief! Not to mention an opportunity for businesses to save on advertising.

I take an interest in others, it's why I post/read here and read some choice blogs and maybe now Twitter accounts.

I expect maybe a person or two likes what I have to say. Communicating with the commonfolk, the new vanity! Who knew?

Thinking about this further, I always enjoy overhearing chit chat while sitting in a diner, especially among the retirees. Lots of gems of wisdom in there. Maybe that would be a great project- getting more seniors on Twitter.

I find the idea of Twitter to be completely annoying. I'm just to private of a man I guess. If you want to know what I'm doing call me so I can hear your voice at the very least. I hate using text, and usually I find out what my friends have been up to by sitting in front of them with a few drinks and shooting the shit. Call me old fashion, but the impersonality of texting, (and there by I assume "Twittering") annoy me to no end. To me it all hit the fan a year back when my ex broke up with me that way. Not a phone call, not face to face, not even a dear john letter where there is at least fully written out words.

You want to track me down, it's not that hard. I'm the guy in the hat, and most of my friends have my number so no big. I don't have an interesting enough life to write about it, and if my friends want to tell me something important I'd rather they did it face to face, or if you can't do that, through a phone (or at the very least on a instant messenger for my friends in other countries and in the military).

The libertarian in me says more power to you guys. Live and let live. The curmudgeon in me says "Get off my lawn with your bird or I'm going to shot it. We'll see how it tweets then." lol I just feel like things are becoming less and less personal.

I'm sure I'll be the beneficiary of much twitter based communication, especially with you guys if I decide to go to a meet up some time. With that said though I'd still rather just have a phone call lol. But I guess if it brings enjoyment to some people go for it, but you can count me out of this one.

I avoided Twitter for the longest time, just as I have avoided Facebook and Myspace. But a few short weeks ago the possibilities of REALLY utilising Twitter were revealed to me. As a Blogger / Writer and Model by trade (well these days anyway), Twitter is proving to be an invaluable tool for me to stay in touch with my audience and grow my readership. In the same way that I used to use the old Business Networking Groups where you meet for breakfast and discuss leads, Twitter has taken the place of that for me.
I don't guarantee to always be interesting, but should anyone care I can be found here.

But this is a misinterpretation of what Twitter can be and is used for. Twitter is as much a cool, quick and easy tool for exchanging opinions, recommendations, thoughts, as it is a tool for updating everyone following me about what I'm doing right now.

Pretentious blather and banal proclamations can be equally represented in short or long form, on twitter or on a forum. I believe the value of a message is not dependent upon the medium but rather the author.

Here lies the problem for those who frown on trends like Twitter. It is not the technology that people object to but the volume of nonsense it is used for. The idea that people think others need to follow what they are doing every second of the day, in the name of "exchange of information", is a delusion people labor under.

I hear that it is invaluable for getting the inside story in any industry and most notably entertainment and politics. For this reason, I am intrigued, though I haven't joined.

In general, I believe that anything that brings people together should be regarded as a good thing. Making connections with people is one of the great joys of life and one of life's greatest well-springs of meaning.
