To rewire my stubborn neuropath from leather jackets addiction - I’ve decided to embark on this DIY cobbler journey
. Gives me incredible satisfaction and the materials only cost a couple of hundred pounds!!
I scored these second hand Trickers with perfect condition uppers but beat up soles.
After taking apart old heels and soles - I’ve reused some scrap letter to fill up the top part of the cavity (not a cork fan). I also bought some incredible 8.5-10mm buffalo leather midsoles - trimmed off (with a chisel as I don’t have a skiving knife) excess bits to make a super leather shank!! I can really feel the arch support when trying on the shoes without midsole/outsoles.
I plan to glue on another piece of thinner leather 3-4mm as shank cover, before glueing on the Megalodon midsoles , and hand stitch the whole thing. I will then glue on rubber outsole and then nail old heel block plus new rubber heel on top. I won’t stitch through the rubber outsole for ease of resole next time.
Thoughts? Anything you’d do differently? Any pitfalls to watch out for?
