Trench Coat - the 'Ultimate' Thread!

Hello,
I got one in 40R, (DSCP GARRISON made by AMERICAN APPAREL). It's fits true to size. The removable liner is very practical to make it "all weather".
Nice coat in 65/35 Polyester-Cotton blend.
I got it on Ebay for 50 € last year.
The same pattern exist for the USMC in "Putter", which is a sort of khaki/Grey.

Yup, that's the coat. I saw they had the color you got also on the site but none in my size. I also figured the black would be a good change to the ol' cliche tan trench. Of course, now that I have the black, I wish I had the same coat in tan to switch off with from time to time.

Yes i agree, "Black" is a good compromise to the classic Tan. "Blue" "is also an alternative.
The AIR FORCE and the NAVY have also their own trench coat (2 sorts of Blue ), the pattern looks the same.
Although i've seen a single breasted model one day...

Sorry, the name of the color of the USMC "All Weather Coat" is "Pewter".

I know it's not exactly a trench coat, but this may as well be my first coat for the purpose of this thread. It's a London Fog single-breasted raincoat. I figure it's about time to invest in one.

It may not be vintage, but I like the way it looks. I hope it fits well, size 38r should be good. I have a green tweed overcoat by Hart Schaffner & Marx that is a little too loose at size 40r.

Awesome, I've eyed it up a few times, but it's a bit more coin than I can put down on something right now. Can't wait to see it!

It's not "exactly a trench coat", but it is an excellent style, especially for summer wear and for what one might call "less serious" rain; and it could be worn with a cap as well as with a trilby/fedora.

Yes, it's not quite Rick's being black, but for a modern trench, I like it more than the London Fog "Bogart" style, and it was only $28 at surplus.

No problem, that's the same thing I figured, too. Can't beat spending less than $30 on a great coat!

My coat came in the mail recently, and I wore it today on the first rainy day in months, here in Los Angeles:

It's very comfortable, and warmer than I thought it would be. It does have a wool liner that could be zipped out. I like it with the hat, too. I think it fits in with my brown Indy style as well.

That coat seems to work out well.

And there's nothing wrong with looking like a spy.... even if it is a MAD spy....

It looks great, and a brown hat might go better with it than the grey.
In rainy Britain a good-looking raincoat like this is acceptable as a light topcoat for cool weather, when one needs something over the suit but an overcoat would be too warm. Is this the general case in the USA?

Do just that! It is a good style, but a true (double-breasted) trench coat is probably better for more "serious " rain, and this is the one that should have a detachable winter lining if the weather in your area requires it.

Burberry side pocket flaps removal possible?

A few vintage Burberrys trench coat models come with flap side pockets.

Can these storm flaps covering the slant pockets be removed, just by carefully removing the stitching?

I know it is sacrilege to the old Trench 21.

However, looking at a bargain with these pockets I was hoping for some feedback on whether removal was a possibility or not, since I prefer rectangular pockets.

Yes, it is always a possibility and yes, it would be a sacrilege. You'd have holes from the stitching and probably a darker shade of fabric showing afterwards. Stitch lines never go away. Eventually someone will notice. Please, just jam the flaps inside the pockets like everyone else or go find another "bargain" that doesn't have them.
