So, Saturday I was helping move my masonic lodge to new quarters and in the attic of our old temple I found a rack of vintage Tuxedos. All of them were in great shape quite a few were custom. I would guess that most of them were of 60's-70's vintage although they could have been much older. Most of them were shawl collar but I did find about 2-4 peak collar dinner jackets. Some of the details lead me to believe they were of more modern make. One of the peak collar jackets had flap pockets, another only had 1 non satin covered button at the sleeve and two button closure. For the curious they did have high armholes. Unfortunately my 46" body was not fitting in any of them.

However, I was able to score this so I am not too upset:

I own dinner jackets dated 1926 and 1929 that have pocket flaps. (Both are 1 button SB with peak lapels.) Pocket flaps may have temporarily gone away at some later time, but they are not a recent innovation.

That said, one tends not to see them on fashion plates from any period.
