Yesterday, but...The U.S. invasion of Attu (Alaska), my father's baptism of fire, occurred May 11, 1943. It was comprised mainly of the U.S. Army's 7th Infantry Division, with some units of the 4th Infantry Regiment also participating, and was the third amphibious assault of the war.
