Puzzicato...I was a little scared of that folding spring loaded hair removal gadgetron.. until I scrolled down and saw the photos of the very happy gal getting rid of her hideous cheek hair. It says "no pain." Really?

I confess that I don't look quite so smug when I use it! But it hurts less than tweezing IMO, and because it leaves some of the finest, shortest hairs, it looks more natural than the scorched earth effect that depilatory creams can give!

Correct usage is to wait for the skin to "calm down". YMMV, but give it say 24 hours.

Lets say that rather than "wrong" the instructions are inadvisable. Reason for continuing to print.... may be professional instructions to get the product on while the client is in the spa while you can rather than having the client use it (or not) at home where the esthetician has no control over use. Maybe not. I forget the exact rational, but as far as I know the company isn't going to change it.

Just a heads up to save yourself some discomfort.

I agree with one of the first posters on this, and I'm basing this on the 1940s House (UK TV Series) Where the daughter uses a pummice stone on her legs, looked painful, she scratched her legs to shhhhhhhh but if someone wants to go vintage, it's worth a try.

I could never give up my razor and I could never go without having my eyebrows waxed, it's a confidence thing for me, I suffer from hirsuitism so if I didn't I literally would look like the bearded lady (sorry, too much information )

I have PCOS and it causes me to have issues with excess hair, so I feel your pain. I definitely keep track of any excess hair and remove it promptly.

epilators?

Hello ladies, I have a question for those of you who epilate...

Do you have any tips for what to look for in an epilator or usage tips? I just got an Emjoi epilator with 21 tweezer heads and gave it a try. I don't feel like it works very well! I'm following the instructions - I'm holding it so the tweezer heads rotate down my leg, and moving the epilator in small circles in the direction of the hair growth. It's grabbing some hair but is leaving lots of strays behind, and is really, really slow going. I actually feel like it works better when I move it up my leg instead of down.

Any tips from you experienced users? Do I need to buy a more expensive one with more tweezer heads? Could I be doing somethign differently to make it more effective?

I had a cheap one to start with and it was really slow and hard work. I now have one of the expensive Braun ones and it is still fairly slow going (I have to go back over the same area several times) but not as bad. I move the epilator UP my leg personally - perhaps I've been doing it wrong though!

I move it up my leg too and it does take ages. To do both my legs fully it can sometimes take over an hour and a half just because I have to keep going over bits.

Thanks again for the info. At this point, I'm wondering if it's not more effective to just do home waxing? In the long run it's not more cost affective, and it's messier, but much faster. An hour and a half? That's a lot of time to spend on home hair removal every month!

I cannot use those exfoliating gloves or pads. I used them once and it left horrible blotches all over my legs where the skin had broken. It was so painful.

I'd like to try Veet. I used to use Nair, but my hair is so coarse it never really worked (even the stuff made specially for "coarse" hair). I'd leave it on long enough to remove the hair, but again, ended up with a rash or burned skin.

So for right now it's a razor. I did have a friend in high school who used an electric one. She said it didn't get as close as a regular blade, but I remember her legs were beautiful. No scars from cuts, not ingrowns. I was so jealous!

If that's the case then I think you need a different epilator! There's no way that's acceptable.

I have used an epilator for years -- I have an old Philips model which still works fine. It takes me less than ten minutes to do both legs and armpits, and I'm very happy with the results.

You may be right, I have had it for years. Part of the problem is I'm so pinickity (is that how you spell it?) and have really fine hairs so I'm constantly rubbing my leg to see if there is any trace of hair. I admit I usually have a bit of a break between legs hehe, but I think you're right.

I use the Veet sensitive bikini formula if I can't get to the beautician for a bikini wax. I tried it once on my underarm, and it immediately started to sting. By the time I was able to wash it off, the skin under my arm (thank god I had only done one) had blistered and started to peel. Since it sounds like you have very sensitive skin, I would say that you should avoid Veet as well!

I tried a dipilatory once and wasn't really happy with it - it took a lot longer to work than it was supposed to, and still didn't get all of the hair.

Also, I must have still had a tiny bit on one of my fingers when I went to do my hair after that, because I ended up with a large strand of hair "breaking" up near the roots not too long after that

I've wanted to get laser removal on my pits for a long time - those are what I have to shave the most and it drives me crazy! Groupon here recently ran a special for 3 sessions for $99 which is a fantastic steal! I have 6 sessions to use and am hoping that should cover it, though I had no idea you had to wait so long between sessions (5-6 weeks! So if it takes you 6 sessions, you could be looking at nearly a year to finish your course of treatment!). I have my first session in a couple of weeks and am very excited!

For ingrown hairs after bikini waxes (I get a hollywood but I only tend to get ingrowns on the pubic mound funnily enough TMI sorry!) I use the hot compress route to sooth so soak a flannel in the hottese water I can stand which helps to bring any swelling down, I then use a gentle facial exfoliator (I like soap and glory generally) and I also use tend skin which all in all seems to work ok. It is a pain getting them and you don't want to keep picking them out or you'll scar.

I also find sugaring makes them much more likely to get ingrown...
