Thoughts on rust contrast stitching?

Probably look nice as long as the stitching is neat and close to the edges of the panel, the further away from the edge the less attractive a contrast stitch to me.
Your photos above is what i call close to the edge stitching and where it looks good.

Yeah those edges on the pictured jacket are very slim and neat. Didn't consider that visually a thicker edged panel wouldn't be the look I would want.

I wish in leather jacket they do multi colored and sized threads like in jeans and denim world... so something like only decorative top stitches around the pockets or maybe across the yoke,etc with that contrasting color while other is tonal or maybe a 3rd color, wouldn't that be ideal

The only combo of contrast stitching I don’t like is white thread on a dark colored leather. This combo of rust and black is great. Reminds me of how true vintage black jackets often have sun faded brown stitching. Would look awesome on a PHWM.

I like white on black when new - problem is it can look icky as it ages and gets grimy, given that leather jackets don't get 'cleaned' often. I always liked the orange stitching on a DM sole when it had gotten a few rounds in with black polish and gone yellow.

I'm a fan of contrast stitiching generally. Mixed feeling about mixing black and brown as a rule, but I voted 'yes' here with the qualifier that it was a black with brown undertone or more of a teacore effect. Which, after I hit the vote button, I see from the op that is what is intended. Loosk good on the jacket in the photos in op.

I think that looks pretty great, personally. But contrast isn't always what you want, either, so I get it. I also like gold on black quite a bit. Black does go with a lot of colors. (And, well, that's dark seal, as you say, but it's still pretty close to black. Probably more apparently seal brown in person tho

I gotta admit, it’s growing on me. Not sure what it would look like on a full D Pocket cross-zip though.!

Certainly worth careful consideration. D-pocket jackets such as Ridley & J106 have a lot of stiching on them, along with harware.

My long sold off Cordovan Ridley had olive contrast stiching on Cordovan CXL - pretty noticable. Not quite as much pop as rust on Seal brown, but you can use these photos to consider it.

I’m with you on the olive. The rust on dark seal or black looks supurb when you just see a section, but I think stepping back to see the whole jacket it would look too busy.
