Ciccarelli makes for Thom Browne.

Well made, with a fair amount of hand work but nowhere near Oxxford quality.

Ciccarelli Tailors. Hmmm...there doesn't seem to be a website. I suppose I'll have to go over there and annoy them.

I went to hear Lord Whimsy read a few weeks back and Browne was brought up. Lord Willy, a bespoke tailor here in NY, was on the panel, and while he said that he wasn't much for the style, when he saw Browne and entourage at an eatery all wearing the suits en masse, he thought it made a statement. I thought he was just being correct, in case anyone from Browne's group was in the audience.

I actually can't wait to see Browne's work for BB. I shall directly go over there to offer my grievence.

Regards,

Senator Jack

i must be the only one who thinks the Pee Wee/nerd look is cool. don't get me wrong, i wouldn't wear it myself (although i'm sure some people think i look like a nerd) i just think it's witty and fun.

Senator, i'm going to guess that his BB collection will be a more conservative version of his own look, which will bring it back to an almost exact early 60s shape, which surely is perfect for you, no ?

Actually, of the three suits shown at the top I like the second and really like the third. The trousers on the first are a touch too short though.

I also like the suits that Nick Hart is making at his Saville Row shop Spencer Hart.

Salv, there's something about that one above that doesn't do it for me the way Browne's do. maybe it's the lower single button, or the break in the trousers. and the legs look TOO narrow. there's a classicism to Browne's suits that is more timeless. i also think that if you're going to go ultra-neat the short trouser leg makes sense. the guy on the far right... his suit almost doesn't look too small at all. it's almost the classic continental shape.

There's a fine line between Thom Browne and the Rat Pack. An inch, here and there.

I stopped in a few places that are already making narrow suits, and while close, they're not on the money for the sort of money they go for. As I wrote in Marc's 70s suit thead, designers still like to play with the pockets thinking a tweak here and there is going to make the style new and exciting.

As for the breakless trouser, I have a few pair of 60s dress/suit trousers that come up a bit short on me and I find the only footwear that goes with breakless trousers are Beatle boots. I'm also not a fan of cuffless trousers, though I suppose if one is going to purchase a $3,500 suit he can have 10" cuffs done up if he so desires. Perhaps that will be the next trend.

What's going to bother me more than anything is that the prices of the original 60s suits are going to rise as men without the jack for a new suit start emulating the Browne style. Ah, for the old days when 60s suits were just 'old clothes' to be had for a few bucks.

Follow-Up:

Today's WSJ Article:

Can Brooks Brothers appeal to a younger, hipper customer?

Next month, the privately held haberdashery will launch the biggest print-ad campaign in its 189-year history to introduce Black Fleece, a high-end collection by avant-garde designer Thom Browne. It's part of the retailer's broader effort to signal that it's keeping up with the times and to draw in new customers.

Featuring clothes by Mr. Browne, known for ankle-baring gray-flannel suits and cropped jackets, is a departure for the venerable Brooks Brothers. Mr. Browne's suits developed a cult following as the slender, 5-foot-10 budding designer sported them around New York's Meatpacking District, where he began his own business in his apartment in 2001.

The ads for Mr. Browne's Black Fleece collection, which will appear in the big September fashion issues of magazines like GQ and Vogue, are also a contrast to the usual Brooks Brothers style....

Prices overall will be about 30% or 40% higher than for traditional Brooks Brothers merchandise. Other items in the collection, which consists of 300 pieces made in Italy and at Brooks Brothers factories in the U.S., include $2,700 wool suits, $700 cashmere sweaters, $700 wingtip shoes and $150 cotton button-down shirts (which Mr. Browne prefers with the collar buttons undone).
