Aquascutim (other than that I can never spell it right) - always seemed a quieter version of Burberry, same quality, less notice. At least back in their day - I don't know much about them today as Burberry seems to have gone the fashion route.

swanson_eyes you are doing it right (I think we were both typing at about the same time since, when I started typing, I hadn't seen your response).

Brooks Brothers Oxford Cloth Button Down shirt or J.Press' version with the pocket flap? (since we seem to be doing competing clothing brands for iconic Golden Era items)?

I have to go with the classic on this one - Bogie and Bacall, but honestly, I have never found them that engaging together - more iconic than passionate.

Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman or Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn

Annette Henshaw (but far from someone I know a lot about or have listened to a lot. I'd hear her growing up on some of the "old-time" radio stations my Dad listened to).

Carvel or Dairy Queen (which were the soft-serve ice-cream competitors in my town growing up).

What's a Manhattan ?

From Wikipedia:

Manhattan clam chowder[edit]

Manhattan clam chowder
Manhattan clam chowder has red broth, plus tomato for flavor and color. In the 1890s, this chowder was called "New York clam chowder" and "Fulton Fish Market clam chowder." Manhattan clam chowder was referenced in Victor Hirtzler's 1919 "Hotel St. Francis Cookbook."[citation needed] The addition of tomatoes in place of milk was initially the work of Portuguese immigrants in Rhode Island, as tomato-based stews were already a traditional part of Portuguese cuisine.

Not a soup I would think of if I had a sore throat. I'd go with a cold soup to numb the pain of a chicken noodle as it is putative to have some medicinal quality (not really, but it is kind of a cliche medicinal soup).

All that said, I prefer New England clam chowder as I like its creaminess over the Manhattan's tomato-base version.

I've never had either, but I would say New England Clam Chowder, as I'm from New England. :p

Trilbys, or Caps?

Caps - I love their look from newsboys in their day to today. And I like that you can wear them without being too "costumey" today; whereas, at least I can't pull off a Trilby without looking like I'm trying too hard.

You are from New England and never had New England Clam Chowder - I think you should add it to your list of things to do. It's pretty common, so you shouldn't have to look to far.

Roger Moore as "The Saint" or Roger Moore as James Bond?
