Thick Hair?

I was wondering if vintage hairstyles can still work on girls with thicker hair?
I am going for this hairstyle for my prom:

However, I am not sure if it will look as nice [huh]

Yes, vintage styles work with thick hair. (My hairstylist tells me I have enough hair for two people.) But your hair has to be layered, and I find that smooth styles work better. All-over curls look like a blond afro on me.

Thick hair should not be a problem wearing vintage styles, but you may ideed not set your hair in to smal sections, as you don't want to wear a afro style

I have super thick hair and it took me a very long time to be able to control it and make vintage styles work. In the end, I had to chop it off to neck length to make it do anything.

Of course, this isn't a great solution for you if you want to wear that hairstyle. My hair did reach the small of my back though. If yours is a bit longer than Dita's, it should work fine.

In fact, I think thick hair sets better and holds longer than fine hair. Good luck and post a photo when you're done!

I have very, very thick hair and lots of it and I too covet the Dita styles. here is what my hairdresser told me (vintage haidresser Nina in London)

With the more wavy lookslikeyour picture and the ends set in curls, the hair needs to be a good deal longer than the finished style.

Hardly any layers, otherwise you end up with more curls allover instead of waves ending in curl(s). This will also make the look even smoother. Which makes sense.

To repeat what others have said here, layers are key! But Darhling is also right - for styles like this, longer layers are better. But even taking some out in layers will help lighten up your hair a lot!
