Thedi Idas on bigger dudes?

Hi friends,

Long time lurker, decided to make an account. Been in the boot game for years and have recently fell in love with Thedi designs and ready to invest in a piece from him. He’s been surprisingly responsive by email and I’ve settled on a customized version of his Idas buffalo cocoa jacket.

I understand each maker has their own unique designs and silhouette. I’m a bigger dude 5”10 and 205lbs (ex football and hockey player) fairly muscular but always had a bigger chest. Recent measurements put my waste and chest at about the same 44/45” range and having some second thoughts on whether even a customized thedi jacket would look good on my build. I’m usually XL in t-shirts and all my other off the shelf jackets.

Anyone with thedi experience feel free to offer some thoughts unless I’m just over thinking given the 2k investment.

At this point I think every long distance MTM leather jacket is a huge risk, especially from non Anglo/American manufacturers.

Unlike a suit coat, a leather jacket can't really be let out or in because the stitch holes are permanent. We've had plenty of amazing Thedi jackets come through here but also some expensive misses even from people who'd had great in person Thedi shopping trips.

Is there a particular reason you want to go Thedi?

Beyond being well regarded and respected. His designs are quite compelling. I love buffalo/bison leathers as well.

Oh well it’s to master supply co I go then…

I do own 2 Thedis today(one vaxed and one leather) and have another on the way(in his cocoa buffalo), and those are two of, if not THE best fitting jackets I own(both when it comes to the look of the jackets, but more importantly how the jackets feel when wearing) .

Theodoros seems like a wizard when it comes to making his patterns, as almost everyone I've seen in his jackets looks amazing(from skinny to athletic, his jackets seems to flatter most body types) so I really think they would look good on you to!(but I understand it's a lot of money).

For reference I'm 6"0 and around 175lbs and this is how my Thedis fits(I prefer a rather fitted jacket, but they still feels amazing to wear :) and neither of these was made custom for me, both are second hand).

Hopefully this will give you some information :)

I wouldn't stress about it at all, I do own 2 Thedis today(one vaxed and one leather) and have another on the way, and those are two of, if not THE best fitting jackets I own(both when it comes to the look of the jackets, but more importantly how the jackets feel when wearing) .

I'm not familiar so this sarcastic response doesn't land. Googling reveals some Canadian thing.

Take advice or leave it; that's your choice. Just be aware that you're gambling. I certainly hope it works out.

That model jacket has a very square shape. The guy wearing it on the Thedi web looks wide in that jacket. He doesn't look wide in other jackets. The jackets featured always show a long skinny person wearing it. You never see a jacket where the width is longer than the length on the person modeling it.
As the sizes get bigger the details often look out of balance. Pockets to far east west from each other.
You have to have realistic expectations that it is not going to look like it does on the model. Some things look better on a hanger than they do on people.
If your top priority is comfort then you should be happy with a Thedi jacket.
I love my Evander.

Why do we have so many trolls joining recently?
You must be a blast at parties. I’m quite shocked a little sarcasm in jest has ruined your day. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to make it up for you.

And by the way, you decided to reply to this thread because you are in fact an owner of a Thedi jacket?

I really do not think you would have an issue if you have given Theodoreus your measurements and he has helped you along this far. He has sized up a Lot more people for jackets than most of us here have, so I would encourage you to try it out. If you are ready to do it...

For North American customer's using Carrie at Thurston Brothers is also a good choice. She did great with the custom Aero's I had made. She can do the same with Thedi.

Thank you,

I spoke with Carrie actually but had a much better dialog with Thedi. Carrie seemed really persistent to close the deal and I didn't think she really had a grasp of what I was asking for. Maybe caught her on a bad day.

That's strange you spoke with Carrie. They only do business via email.
They do have a 2XL in Stock.

They do have a 2XL in Stock. However the waist would be too small for your rotund shape.
If your name didn't make you sound like a lonely 15 year old looser you would likely get better advice.
Would it be more sad to tell you that it’s actually my real name and I have a PhD in mechanical engineering?

Maybe “spoke” is carry’s the wrong meaning, I “corresponded” with Carrie over email, correct.

What’s with the aggression and short fuses here these days? It’s tiring. Grow up!

Post a picture wearing something that fits you well and someone will likely have great suggestions. Maybe it will be Thedi and maybe something else.
Send a picture to Carrie and she will have a better idea of what will look best. She is a real pro.
It is to difficult to imagine with just the 2 body measurements you provided. All your features and the garment need to work together to pull off an elevated look.

I wasn’t familiar with the Idas so I just had a look at it on the Thurston website. It looks like a rather square boxy style, similar to the Aero Highwayman, and I think this style is particularly well suited to someone with a stocky build.

In the last ten years I have spoken with Carrie on the phone probably a dozen times, and why are you jumping all over this guy, am I missing something?

I see your parents had a sense of humor.
Hats off to you and your education accomplishment.
Hit Carrie up again. She will tirelessly work to help you out. I have exchanged at least 100 emails with her. Make your likes and dislikes known. Remember every feature of the jacket can be altered. Zipper cuff, button cuff, type and color of Zipper, all length and width measurements. I have a Thedi jacket on order using the back of one style and the sleeves and front of another. Interior and exterior pockets can be added, deleted, resized or repositioned. The unique design you end up with depends on the effort and time you are willing to spend. The only way you will end up with an uncomfortable Thedi jacket is is you don't provide correct body measurements. Give him precise measurements and the resulting garment will be wonderful.
