The TFL effect with buying and selling

What is a healthy amount of jackets really?

Also I have some jackets i want to sell, I saw the rules post as registering as a vendor and posting to merchants room. Does that apply to the people who are here to do other things than just sell, like me, or is that just for sellers?

The wordy is a bit fuzzy and left me confused?

Should I register as a vendor? Also I sell through eBay, and would probably advertise on here. What’s the protocol with that?

I have listed for sale items in the Classified section before without registering as a vendor and I believe that is common. Also, under the “finds and deals “ section, eBay auctions are allowed to be linked. That’s the extent of what I can offer.

You should own as many as you regularly wear for the appropriate season. I personally don't believe in occasion jackets, "closet queens" and once/twice a year kind of jackets - those should be moved on. I currently have two jackets that I rotate and switch between based on the rest of the outfit and that's enough for me.
Obviously this doesn't apply to collectors.

I like cross zips so I have one in black (Vanson E) and one in brown (Aero Hooch Hauler).
Can see them both "in action" here:

Sick. No deck jackets?
I went through 3 deck jackets and landed on Pike Brothers Waxed Khaki which I'm very happy with :)
I switch to it when it falls below freezing. I still use a leather jacket as well sometimes when it's that cold, but mostly on nicer days. The deck jacket is more cozy, more roomy for layering and more mobile.

I also have an Iron Heard indigo canvas type 1 for summer. Tank of a jacket, the canvas feels like 25 oz denim (which I wear on my legs almost daily). Similarly the IH cargo pants were cursed by my tailor when hemming for being the thickest fabric she had ever had the misfortune of dealing with.

Exactly the number that makes you happy.

I don't collect jackets just to own them, but to wear them.
The real disadvantage with many jackets is that they always look new because they are actually worn too little. What's more, I sometimes like leather jackets more, sometimes fabric jackets. A hundred years ago, I had one or two leather jackets that I wore every day and they looked broken in accordingly.
I'm a minimalist at heart and would find it cool to get by with just a few things, but somehow that doesn't work with clothes.

I feel that. Personally I kind of like when my jackets look new. It’s my jeans I like to show wear.

I had one jacket an Aero cafe racer before I joined the TFL. Sold it then went through a couple Aeromarine jackets, two used jackets from the classifieds, Then five Thedi jackets.

Sold off the Aero jackets the used ones from the classifieds and one of the Thedi jackets which leaves me at four leather jackets from Thedi which is insanity, However the real insanity is I look in the classifieds and Ebay for one more

Yea, this jacket thing does tend to hook you in.

When I started years ago all I wanted was a US Authentic B-6 to be my winter coat because I was tired of freezing my ass off in college….well I stumbled upon TFL and learned about the different makers, and zippers, and leathers….

I never did end up getting that one and only jacket I wanted, the US Authentic B-6…..

It just snowballed instead.

Now the stable of keepers are…

ELC B-6
ELC B-3
Bill Kelso Duke
Bill Kelso A-1
Bill Kelso Grizzly
10 Woolrich coats from 1935-1941 of all different models
1940s Denim Chore Coat
And probably another 10 or so I’m forgetting.

This isn’t even counting the close to 20 jackets I’ve sold in the past 10 years, A-2s, A-1s, B-3s, vintage wool coats, just oodles of them.

The problem is I still want more. I still want a Good Wear, an Aero, a D-1. and another Bill Kelso style….*sigh*

I never intended any of this….. all because I came into this forum to find out if the US authentic was worth the $700 back then which sounded like crazy stupid money for a jacket to me back then……$10k+ later…yikes.

I blame the Internet. If I could walk into a local shop and try on all the jackets anytime, I’d enjoy inspecting and getting to know more about them without buying. Instead, something catches my eye here and I start obsessing over it until I convince myself I need to buy it. But I’m a minimalist at heart, so soon I’m selling it in order to make way for a new desire.

Yeah I feel that. I always dreamed of getting an A-2. I got one a while ago along with a billion other jackets.

This last year I finally discovered Iron Heart’s N-1 deck jacket. It has me questioning all the other jackets I’ve gotten in the past because it kind of does everything, it’s just more versatile than any of my other jackets. It’s nautical, but the fur collar gives me the same feeling I get when I wear one of my flight jackets. And I think I am liking the jungle cloth more than leather. It just feels like the most indestructible material while still having a sweet texture and feel.

I can understand that. I'm currently wearing my Deck zip jacket the most. Today I thought I'd wear a leather jacket again. As I stood on the really cold platform, I thought to myself how nice and cosy it would be in my Deck jacket ;)
