The TFL effect with buying and selling

Been contemplating a lot of things in my life and have recently been downsizing and declutterring by selling trucks and boats and other things I own. Then I was thinking about when I joined this lounge in 2020, I had owned and worn leather jackets for 40 or so years prior to joining. I wanted to understand the effect of being a somewhat active member in the sport of not only this forum but chasing the next perfect leather jacket. My goal has always been simple, buy only pre-owned high quality jackets and my avenues being mostly EBay but FB marketplace and these classifieds.
I joined TFL in 2020 and in that time I have bought and sold forty-one jackets, sold twelve just in the last year alone But obviously sold or returned more In that time frame. Currently have seven leather jackets in my possession and may sell a few more. Today is the first time I have actually seen the toll being a member of this forum has taken on my emotions and my bank account. I would not trade my time here for just about anything. Full disclaimer, I know these are rookie numbers among some of the elites of this group but to me it is eye opening.
If you read this far I thank you.

Yeah, I like to joke that most of us on this forum need psychiatric help. But just like the movie "This is Spinal Tap", the joke is so close to the truth that it almost makes you want to cry.

Wow, that's some serious turnaround. I'd say overall around 10 jackets have gone through my hands including the ones I have kept and the ones I'm currently selling during my ~2 years here. So I guess I'm on the rather healthy side of the TFL spectrum. I have no intention of buying any more jackets anytime soon, just need to sell two and I'll be down to two perfect jackets. But, as they say in my country, man has plans and god laughs at them.

Yeah, I was quite surprised when I added them all up. Problem now is that I have curated seven jackets that I consider keepers. Hard choices in my future.

It's all relative to the individual of course. What has helped me keep it manageable for me over the years (living on an academic salary in London aside), has I think been that I treat my jackets as wardrobe rather than as a collection. I only buy what I will wear, and I try to be reasonable about what I pick up - so I don't need a Bootlegger in every colour; instead of having every style in every colour, I'll vary colour and style and so on. It's a small thing, but it's helped me avoid giving in to what I sometimes call a collector mindset, but really borders into hoarding behaviour in my case.

Snap Edward, I have a combination of leather, nylon parka and jackets which I class as summer to do Madrid and that suits me now, not a big collector anymore
