It does look great. Sorry it didn't fit. It will make someone happy,

Well, I got my own vintage Stetsonian, but it’s a few sizes too small. What a hat! Wide Whippet-esque brim binding but the binding is much wider on the top of the brim and narrower on the bottom. 5 1/2” open crown and 2 3/4” brim…and sadly a size 7 1/8:

The sweatband is nice and supple and the hat is pretty clean. The felt is fawn and more brown than the photos show. The felt is substantial and should make a good cool weather hat for someone. Off to eBay and…Japan?

Here is an interesting ad....Stetson sold by 11,000 hatters!! Now this is an ad, recommending we all should have a "soft" hat and a Derby........It also mentions their "famous" Army hats, the new Stetson Velour and is one of the earliest references to the Stetsonian I have yet found....1917!!!!

Happy New Year all! Starting off 2023 by sharing my new 1940s Stetsonian.

The brim is 2 3/4 and the open crown is 5 1/2. Great binding treatment wider on the bottom of the brim than the top. Very soft malleable felt. Indoors it can be hard to tell that the ribbon is blue, not black, but it really pops in daylight. The very sight tapering of the crown gives it a big 1940s profile compared to others I have with similar dimensions.

Cheers,

David

That’s a hat any of us would love to have. Great find!

Stetsonian as it arrived out of the box today. Think it's a 40's hat. Something else for Randall to clean.

A rare Stetsonian bowler, Royal Stetson Deluxe. Dimensions are typical; 4 3/4 crown, dimensional D'Orsay brim, 1 inch black ribbon. The felt is smoother than I was expecting. The crown has some waves, but a little steam will correct those. The orange and red tags are intact but the red tag is "glued" to the liner, so this is the best picture I will be able to get. I do not see any other numbers or codes on the sweat. The tag on the inside of the sweat is perforated, so maybe it had a price tag that was removed? The size 7 is small on my noggin', as expected, but I could not let this one go by!

1940's perhaps?

Unless I'm mistaken, I think that tag mentioning the textile composition is a late 40's thing, I'm thinking it's said to be about 1947 or 48, if I recall what I've read somewhere on FL. I think it's discussed on the Dating Stetson Hats thread.

I'm new to The Fedora Lounge, and have recently purchased a Stetsonian 5x in black. This hat is virtually unworn and in perfect shape. I am a 57 or a 58 depending on the hat. This 58 is huge on me so I have placed quite a bit of weatherstripping under the sweatband. The hat fits well now, but the sweat has this bulge in it. After only trying on the hat 8 or 10 times, the gold leaf (ink) is starting to wear. Am I ruining this sweatband? And if YES, should I sell this hat to someone that it fits without all the weatherstripping. I realize this is probably not a particularly old nor collectable Stetsonian. But I really like the style of it a lot, and would like to keep it, but not destroy it. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

“Royal Stetson DeLuxe“ hats are pre-“Royal DeLuxe Stetsons“. The window for the RSD is very small and somewhere close to 46-47.

I looked into this a while back but forgot my exact conclusions, but I remember we’ve seen one RDS with a Vitafelt stamp - Alan has it. The very end of the Vitafelt period more or less set our earliest possible transition date from RSD to RDS.

Late 40's Royal Stetson Deluxe Stetsonian. Brim is 2 1/2 inches, open crown is about 5 3/4. Photos are as hat was received. Looks like there was once a paper celanese fabric content tag on sweatband at one time. The seller said this hat was found in an old Rhode Island estate, down in the basement in a metal cabinet.
