Knox Factory in Brooklyn!

I was at a party in Brooklyn last Friday night, and as I'm walking down the street what to my amazement appears right in front of me, but a huge building with the words "Knox Hat Factory" (or something like that)? It said Knox Hats on one side and something else on the other side (sorry, the memory is just going . . . ya know?). Anyhow, it's a four story tall, city block wide and long classic late 19th century factory. It says Knox Hats, 1840 - 1890. It's now a pretty spiffy looking condo apartment building. I have a good number of Knox hats, some of my favorites, so I was VERY excited.
I hope to get back there soon and get plenty of pics! It was on the corner of St. Marks Ave., and Grand Ave., in the Prospect Heights section of the County of Kings. Who knew??? This is why I love Brooklyn!

Knox Premier

Nice unworn Knox Premier. Has the wide brim binding on top of brim and narrow underneath. Excellent grey/blue/green color. 2 7/8" brim, brown coated paper ovalized sixteenths size tag, 5 3/4" crown and blue fabric border between liner and tip cover. Soft felt just a hair thinner than the Knox Twenty's I have. Very nice leather sweat with the fabric-type reed area.

I think I made it a week without being envious of a buler find. I guess it was time.

Well, the easterly Wisconsin winds seem to have deposited a Knox Premier on my stoop. :) Buler has already done a nice job of documenting the details of this lid, but I thought I'd offer a few more observations. ;)

To put this lid in perspective, this Knox is very much in the style of the Stetson Vogue. The edge binding is 5/8", and the binding is wider on the top than on the bottom -- leaving a row of stitching on the underside of the brim, as Buler has already demonstrated. The brim itself is 2 7/8", so it provides a really broad swoop. :) The felt is very much reminiscent of the felt on my Stetson 3X (Vogue style) -- medium thickness, dense, soft, and slightly floppy. Very nice.

As far as color goes, the felt is a rich, medium shade of gray. The edge binding is a lighter gray, and the 1 5/8" ribbon is a gray/green. Neat combination...

Having mentioned the Stetson Vogue-Style quality of the Knox, I thought I'd take a side-by-side shot with my Stetson 3X (Vogue-style). The Knox has a 5/8" edge binding, and the binding on the 3X is a tad wider at 11/16". On both lids, the edge binding is wider on top, leaving a narrower binding and a row of stitching on the underside of the brim. The ribbon on the 3X is 1 1/2", and the ribbon on the Knox is 1 5/8".
