I love my "Eddie G" created by Art...so i was thinking to the other end

of color...wanting a soft dark hat...not black???...something that glows with

style...in passing ...a second glance...that hat...midnight blue ....must be

soft ....a slightly smaller brim then the "Eddie G" with a cobolt ribbon.

Well the man did it again...what do you think?

Speaking of work
I DID IT I DID IT!!!!!! Pure blue..soft as a baby's behind...5 3/4 crown, 2 1/2 brim..still on the block but I finally figured this out.

thanks for the post Weegee!!!
I'd better explain the "I did it" thing. Darker hat bodies tend to be stiffer than light colored bodies as the lighter the hat, the more the bleaching in the felting process, which breaks down the felt enough to make it REALLY soft. Since darker hats are not bleached they are tighter and tend to react more to the stiffner added by the felter. I just couldn't get the felt as soft as I wanted it and struggled with the process. I took some advice offered by Fedora a while back & soaked the body in alcohol and it made such a difference and made it so soft I fealt sortof like I had won a race . Winning is a good thing!!! It is SO much fun to learn new stuff!!!

A man and A mission

The soft quality is perhaps not understood.

Soft as a baby behind and butter or more ...

Talking about a hat , we pinch crease and make it so.

Thanks Art for the work to make the the blue a lively soul.

LEUII... I would hate to give you advice and have something bad happen to your hat so let me just tell you that i bought 5 gal bucket with a sealing top, 3 gal of denatured alcohol, put the body in and sealed it. The next day I washed the alcohol out, dried it out on a rack, then went to work making it into a hat. Now, at $12 per gal for the alcohol it's a bit pricey for one hat but thre ya go it you want to try it with yours.

Thanks, Art.

Hmm. . .
Once I asked a fellow how to make a new saddle for my Larrivee. Now I do quite a bit of luthiery. If I try this hat softening, who knows? I'll probably not since I don't have a block.
