THE QUINTESSENTIAL FEDORA

Question.
If you could only own one fedora, what would it be? Vintage? Custom? Wide brim? Stingy? And what about color?
I honestly don't know if I could decide, so I look forward to responses from the pros.

I could just redefine Fedora as I choose and buy as many hats as I liked.

For me, that would be a custom. Sure, it may not be the quality of Golden Era vintage hats, but it's a hat tailored specifically for you.

I wish I could have counted until RLK posted his response.

Boy that is a question isn't it? I would go for something similar to our beloved shady icon in the upper left corner of the website. The peaked, tall crown, generous brim, fur felt obviously. I'd say that would be the model I would look for. Hell, it's what I'm looking for now.

To only have one is a very tough decision.

I'd probably go with a new Akubra Squatter in moonstone.

Second choice might be my Campdraft in brown or the vintage Dobbs Westward Open Road clone in silverbelly.

I honestly just can't decide. My go to fur felt hat seems to be the Akubra Stylemaster, so perhaps that would be my hat, or at least a model very similar to it. I'd need something that would look professional in both formal and casual settings.

For me it has to be a custom, especially because of my round oval head. And I already have it, the VS "Dingus" in my avatar. Art Fawcett knows how to make the ultimate hat for you if you know what you want.

It would be a custom made beaver from Art (VS Hats) with a brim about 3" wide and a diamond crown. Probably a light colour.

My two cents worth.

Something along the dimensional lines of a Stylemaster, custom made and in silverbelly. Real silverbelly.

It depends... is my actual budget involved in this?

I would theoretically love an Art Fawcett creation, in either light gray, or silverbelly. Full crown, probably a diamond tugboat crease, c2 3/4 inch brim (maybe a bit smaller), wide black ribbon, and a wide bound edge.

Actual budget?
Silverbelly Campdraft or vintage Open Road.

By the way, I do only have one fedora, a Willow Green Akubra Squatter.

At the moment, I'm thinking that if I could only own one type of fedora, it would be light grey, a sort of silver, with a black ribbon and bow (1 1/2 inches height), a brim width of about 2 3/8 inches, and a height of 4 1/2 inches front and about 4 1/4 to 4 inches back, with a teardrop crown. For me, it wouldn't matter all that much if it were bound or unbound, but I would prefer not to have underwelts or overwelts on the brim.

Did you ever get around to deciding what your next hat would be?
