The psychological boost of wearing a hat!

So, I am a very tall foreigner living in China. I already get stares all day long. But today I wore my hat for the first time, and it was amazing! People were looking at me, not because I was a foreigner, but because I looked rugged, like a Western adventurer. And they looked at me with respect and awe.

I will say that not so much as a Western Adventurer but "Walks to his own drum". Hats are an Individual Finish in that there are as many different styles, worn in

many differing ways, by a albeit small number of people, each being Their Own. Frank did it "His Way", the scene of Winston Churchill, while painting, His Own,

even Anthony Eden wearing His Homburg, and how generic can a Homburg be; they are now refered to as the Anthony Eden Hat!

I was trying, to no avail, find a graph showing that the oddness of the hat incrementally increased with the self-esteem of the wearer. This may or not be

so, but a Presence might also be noted and with this comes The Responsibility; Courtesy, Proper Manners, etc.

not sure which came first the confidence to publicly wear my hat or the confidence i got from wearing my hat comfortably in public.
this doesnt make much sense but it does to me meaning it has given more confidence in other aspects of life.
plus i get a kick out of it

Hats are making a very definite come back in the UK. The trilby, which is the same as a fedora, and like that hat is named after the lead character is a hit play can be seen on anyone from a government minister to just someone keeping his head warm in the cold. They have never gone away in horsy circles and are now almost required wear for racing. At any race meeting you will see more people in some sections of the crowd wearing trilbies or slightly narrower brimmed 'racing hats' than bare headed.

Although I see plenty of fedoras and other hats on the locals here in Shanghai, I get lots of compliments on my Stetson and Akubra fedoras. However, with the language barrier, it is often a combination of "thumbs up" and waving a hand over the head gesture.

I find that wearing a hat always makes me feel like someone important. It also keeps the sun off my bald spot...

BTW "mao zi" is Mandarin for hat.

Sspotted a young guy this morning. Dark blue blazer (perhaps he had a presentation to make?), khaki pants (worn too long), casual shoes, his stuff in a backpack (wrinkling the blazer no end, I guess) instead of a briefcase -- and a baseball cap. Worn backwards.
