One of my favorites:

Isn't it a phenomenon?
Install an escalator and promptly the people unlearn using the stairs next to it. I mean YOUNG people, teens, 20+, 30+.

Did they just wait for the escalator to happen?? And promplty the stairs next to it are empty. You see only me using them.

In this part of the U.S. (i.e. Los Angeles and Orange counties in southern California, USA) if the owners of a building chose to replace stairs with an escalator, the escalator was usually built where the stairs were, literally replacing them. For customers and other visitors who didn't want to or couldn't use the escalator, there was usually an elevator somewhere in a remote, dark corner of the building they could use. That changed in some businesses when laws to enable/protect disabled people came into effect, but for people who can't/won't use escalators there are usually other means to travel from one floor to another in any given building.
