I recently picked this up on ebay.
It is currently out for cleaning so I can only show you the stock picture.
However, I was impressed :eusa_clap
This is not your current cheap Bailey.

bailey.jpg

Bailey continues to make fine western hats. To assume that all current/modern Bailey hats are cheap based on a few wool fedoras is to be seriously uninformed about the brand.

I have several "other" OR's...both are Resistols...

The first is a 5x I got on OFAS a while back in GREAT shape. It is my "dress" hat..

The second is a 3x Resistol I had reworked by Gus Miller @ Batsakes in Cincinnati. It is my everyday hat.

50's-vintage unmarked Resistol Beaver 100, also originally with a Cattleman crease...one exceptional hat:

I'll swear, this forum is gonna end up costing me more than my flight jacket forum has. After reading this thread, I started looking for OR clones on e-bay. Yesterday, I found this Resistol---hopefully its a San Antonio. The seller says it's already on is way and I may have it by week's end.

Two straw ORs, two felt ORs, two Camp Drafts and now this Resistol. And to think, I joined FL looking for advice as to where to buy just one new Open Road.

The San Antonio that I have is only denoted by a paper sticker on the back of the sweatband with San Ant as model. The sweatband just has Resistol 20.

I was watching that one too, AF. The lack of detail in the description scared me off....

Yes, the description was sparce to say the least. The problem was, I didn't see the listing until it was too late to ask questions of the seller. I'm a bit concerned that it may be too small as I normally like size 7 3/4 in vintage hats. But, then again, I have a steam pot and a whole collection of hat stretchers.

The last "OR" I bought on e-bay--my mystery Stetson---has turned out to be one of my favorite hats. I'm hoping that lightening will strike twice with the purchase of this old Resistol.

I am a true 7 5/8 so let me know if you need to move it!

I suspect they weren't all marked as to model.

My modern Resistol's manufacturer's tag beneath the flange only has a number on it, and the Beaver 100 has no evidence of ever having a manufacturer's tag at all, only the size tag.

I just received another "mystery", 20-dollar Open Road clone today. Turned out to be a 1950's-vintage 7 7/8 Stetson Deluxe in perfect condition, and in an unusual khaki color similar to Atticus' Resistol. I thought it was gonna be another 6 7/8 for the wife, so I'll probably resell it. It hasn't dried from cleaning yet so this is the poor eBay pic.

Newer Stevens DeLuxe

I think that Imperial may have been a quality designation rather than a model. Another hatter(JBS) also used DeLuxe and Imperial to denote quality rather than model. No model, reorder number and union label only.

How about the "Douglas" by Miller Hats probably sourced from Biltmore?

469.jpg

Available in fawn, silver belly, black, grey, and brown.

Also, would the Akubra Bushman count? It's listed as a 3-1/4" brim (but my David Morgan comes in at about 3-1/8").

DMBushman2.jpg

Biltmore's Winter 2006 collection shows a couple of OR types, the BWF 2000 Wilderness and the BLF 2001 Wilderness.

Also, The Fedora Store lists Beaver Brand 5X and 8X versions simply called "Open Road Style," plus another version with a center dent pinch.

Thanks JohnnyB, that Douglas could be a Beaver Brand according to what the customer service gal at Miller hats told me. There was another Beaver Brand with a cattleman crease we discussed, need to do more searching...
Got it..River Runner by Beaver Brand
