It is a nice hat BUT does not need to be thrown into threads where it does not belong, all Willy Nilly, in AN EXPRESSED EFFORT TO SELL IT (or trade). It needs to go to the classifieds......
I’m not trying to sell it or trade it, and this thread is full of Open Road like hats that aren’t open roads. I appreciate your opinion

I landed another 3X OR, I have been keeping my out for an embroidered Last Drop liner and finally found one in a 7 1/2 LO. Last picture is of my other 3X seems identical just the other liner.

Sweet, sweet finds! Ironically i just scored a 3X Last Drop OR (7 1/2 LO), mine is missing the wind cord but, as they say "I got that" and will replace it.;)

Just wanted to thank you all for these threads. I've recently decided to revive the memories of my late grandfather who always wore the Open Road. Frankly, I thought he was the only one and had no idea they had a cult following. He was from Billings, MT, and I live in southwestern PA, so I was unsure if I could get away with it and y'all have taught me an awful lot.

So far I have a late 1950's to early 1960s 25, a mid to late 1970's 4x, and a modern 3x (best style of the lot but crap felt--feels like something one could buy at a Tractor Supply). As long as I only use these threads for amusement purposes I think I will only need a hemp model for straw hat season, but I think we all know what's going to happen.

Anyways, a sincere "thank you" for all the information and I'll resume being very quiet because I don't know butter beans from apple butter about hats.

My favorite hats ever were a couple of 1950's 3X Open Roads, which I sold when I got rid of 100% of my collection about a decade ago. The OR's fit better, felt better, looked better...than any hat I've ever worn. So yesterday I saw a 1950's 3X 7 3/8 Long Oval and didn't think twice about paying a little more than I thought I should. As a bonus, it also comes with the wind cord and box. This will replace my 1950's Stetson 25 which is as close to an Open Road as you can get, but at 7 1/4 LO it's a tad small.

Sweet! I’d be happy to take that 25 off of your hands if you ever decide to let it go!
That was another hat that I gritted my teeth when I saw the price tag - I was at an antique mall two years ago and 'it fit'. For Stetson twenty-five felt, all it has to do is fit :)

Not a 64, I only mentioned this OR to @Bobby Marshall just to let him know there are larger hats out there. I picked up this OR 3X some time back just because 7-7/8 is a rare one. I also have a 7-3/4.

Jack, that’s a nice open road you have. I appreciate you reaching out. Have had great experience with the tenured loungers. Hope to enjoy this forum for a long time to come.

It would also be great to find a size 64 Stetson western but it appears they don’t carry my size in their current offerings. The second hatter to deny me a new hat. Fortunately, I have 2 formidable haberdashers ready to take my western orders. Waiting for the right felt selection so I choose wisely.
