The Munsters

The Addams Family has an edge on The Munsters because of the origin or the AF. Chas Addams was the creator of the macabre, mostly single panel comic that appeared in magazines such as The New Yorker beginning in 1938. Addams' work was the very definiton of 'black humor' in both style and content.

I used to walk by Barris's shop every day when we lived in Toluca Lake. All the cars he's made were rotated in the front window. All my childhood and young adulthood cars there to see. Pretty amazing. And at the same time, some of them were disappointing as they look so much better on TV or in films. Such is the illusion...
But as to the Munsters - I loved that show, and I guess there's two camps: Munsters and Addams Family. I liked both, but Munsters was #1.

If by some insane long-shot this does well I don't have any faith in NBC after reading they are dropping Community. NBC insists on investing in dreck like "Whitney" or some Chelsea Handler sitcom. My interest in prime time television is at an all time low.

They're dropping Community? I don't specifically watch it every week, but the few times I've seen Community it was hilarious. I can't imagine it's doing that bad in the ratings???

The best part of the Munsters, for me, was the original theme music. The second version wasn't as intense. I also loved when the stairs opened up and Spot did his thing.

They're dropping Community? I don't specifically watch it every week, but the few times I've seen Community it was hilarious. I can't imagine it's doing that bad in the ratings???

From the little I've read they aren't yet officially being dropped but "shelved". The remaining shows that make up the season are being filmed. I assume the shelving is a gray area term to alllow the network to drop or resume the progam at a later date.
They don't have high ratings but a strong following. The show is consistently creative and funny. I think the lack of a laugh track throws your average viewer..

I think this could be good. I liked the original show so much though it may be hard to top.

I already don't care for the design of the house, and Grandpa doesn't look even remotely like Grandpa. If you're going to do The Munsters, then do The Munsters. The design and characters are what made the show what it was.

Of course, an even better idea might be to just not do it at all.

The Munsters was cool, but I really liked the Addams Family better.

Agreed. The Munsters were too over the top and not as smart, to my mind. I'd still watch it if it was on, but they always felt like the poor relative to me - whichever came first (I don't know).

I posted this elsewhere, but it applies to all remakes.....

My biggest fear is if Hollywood continues its focus on remaking classic films of the past, we won’t have any new ones to show for in the future."

Yay capitalism. I've seen it everywhere.... even in the music industry. Hell, I remember the Belfast scene, when it was impossible for an act putting out original material to get gigs because all audiences wanted to hear was more of the same.... Common problem. It's sad to see a lac of creativity, but on the other hand why blame the studios? In the last instance they're only churning out what people would buy, so.

Actually, the complete change in these things makes it more appealing to me. A sign of a reinterpretation as creativity. Sure, I'd rather something new, but this is better than a slavish retread of the original at least.

It seems as if the new Grandpa was inspired by the Hammer horror characters played variously by Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing.
