Okay folks, here's the thread to post your adventures in shape shifting, ribbon replacing, brim trimming projects. If it began as one type, and now has gone through a metamorphasis in your hands, post it here so we can enjoy your handiwork. Before and after pics are desirable. Show us the majic!

Who's first?

Haha Duck and I just spent the evening coming up with the name for our society dedicated to western conversions, and then <strike>Dead</strike> Dean makes this one anyway! :rage: lol

I'm going to go ahead and create The Conversion Corral anyway, specifically for western modifications. There will be some overlap, but the name is too good to waste. :D

Won a silverbelly Open Road off eBay a few years back, it was styled in the classic "LBJ" style, which is not a hat I like, or that looks good on me, but I knew from the FL that they could be easily converted to fedoras.

I got the hat, gave it to Hat Works in San Diego to re-do and they turned it into a quite delightful fedora. Can't find the photos I had on it. If I do find them, will post.

This is now the senior member of my collection. About 15 years ago, I found it at a flea market, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. It was new old stock. A Bourse Cellini (Milan) fur, in a deep burgundy color. I gave the brim a slight Homburg curve. Recently. I reduced the size from 7 1/4 to 7 1/8. It's nice not to have a shim in the sweatband.

It is still a snap brim, and the crown is quite moldable. The change to brim down, and front pinch, took less than 60 seconds.

This one is exactly opposite from the conversion corral. It started out as a fedora, but I decided to try it as a cowboy hat. I changed the crown to a center dent, and turned the brim up on the sides. The wide ribbon was replaced with a black bootlace. The felt is bright red velour! Not my everyday hat.

It's a Lock & Co. (St. James St., London). Guess what it lists for, new. I had decided it would be my renaiscance faire hat. It goes well with my grey knickers and black scissor-tail coat. Last time i wore it, some guy from England told me I shouldn't hesitate to wear it ANYWHERE. Maybe next time I go to England.

You need to be careful wearing a hat like that over here. If someone sees something that bright red, with a black line in it, they might try to post a letter in it.

It's certainly a fun hat, no question, but I think maybe it looks a little small? I mean, I know it was originally a fedora, but I'm used to seeing cowboy hats with great big huge brims.

No, I've looked at it again, and it's growing on me. I think the size is OK.

Yeah looked again, and I think the bright red compensates for it being smaller than a normal western hat, because it still fills a large space with all that colour.
