Club Wits End, the monthly speakeasy party here in New York, just announced that a representative of the Gatsby production company will be there for next Saturday's event, with goodies to give away. Woo hoo!

Beyonce should never be asked to sing, dance, or speak again; she needs to fade away.
:D

Beyonce isn't exactly talentless, but she is mediocre. I'm more upset with the Gatsby soundtrack (which I've almost heard in it's entirety). It's exactly what I expected from a Lurhman film, I'm afraid to say......very "modern". I like his cinematography and his artistic displays, but the way he tries to 'modernize' or 'update' things aurally goes too far.

He's clearly got nothing else. Reminds me of that charlatan Shyamalan and his tedious "THERE'S A TWIST!" schtick.

It's to go with the dancing esthetic. Dancing ain't about music anymore. It's about being faaaabulous!

Well, as one whom has been described as "faaabulous" on more than one occasion, I would have to disagree, lol. However, if we're talking about pretense and an attempt to appear as if one is fabulous, I agree with you completely :D

Filming of the movie around Sydney including my suburb of Manly

The rap against a number of previous attempts to bring F. Scott Fitzgerald’s magnum opus, “The Great Gatsby”, to the screen seems to have always been filmmakers were too faithful to the book. Well, Baz Luhrmann, the latest to tackle a film adaptation of the legendary book, has turned that complaint upside down. Literally.

He filmed it Down Under, in Australia.

And he filmed it in 3D. Take that, traditionalists!

The celebrated novel, written in 1925, is set in New York during the Roaring Twenties. It shifts between Jay Gatsby’s extravagant mansion on Long Island and Manhattan, with flashbacks to Louisville, Kentucky, and the American Midwest – where Gatsby’s roots supposedly lie.

But Mr. Luhrmann filmed in exactly NONE of those places. So, where was “The Great Gatsby” actually filmed?

In a word: Sydney

Now Beyonce is singing "Back to black"?! Why?! :jaw:

No.
The original IS perfect:

:rip: Amy Winehouse!

Makes me sad. Perhaps it was because of the addictions that ultimately destroyed her but what talent she had.

Just talking about the sound track this morning. Is there anything they haven't screwed-up? Personally I haven't decided if I want to see it just because of the train-wreck I expect it to be or to stay away in protest of the way the story has been bastardized. Why can't the story translate well to film?
The industry rag apolgists are already out saying things like "it will fail because of the release date". Horsepucky. It will only fail I'd it sucks, and putting Beyonce on the soundtrack is one more nail for me. Big budget. Big stars. Big story. How do you fudge that up?

I'll probably see it because (1) I'm sure it will have impressing visuals for an idealized 1920s Art Deco atmosphere, and (2) because in so many ways I'll be laughable disaster at some level like Spice World...
