Huh, me?
thanks Matt

that tie is vintage. The collarless jkt & textured shirt were bought in two different shops a month apart & a month later I realized they were from the same designer. DUH...

She seems to be into unusual textiles.

I'm a graphic artist, so I really dont need to dress too straight. And the sci-fi nerd in me usually shines thru. But usually its a lot of black sweaters & `40s trousers.

Did anyone watch Beauty&theGeek where one of the blondes put on the nerd's DeepSpace9 uniform for a littl thrill. And the other blondes were marvelling, "gee thats actually kinda fashionable..."
Yes, I've seen a guy wear that to the office & it totally worked....

look into the arty end of menswear and you'll see tons of weirdly-cut 'experimental' clothing. far from being in a 'design dark ages' designers like Comme Des Garcons, Martin Margiella, Victor and Rolf, Dior, Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten etc etc.... consistently produce clothing that makes that Bladerunner outfit look safe. the kind of clothing that usually attracts ridicule from a forum such as this. it's not for me personally, but it's certainly out there if you want it (and have a large wallet).

I just love the sci-fi that basically postulates, "EVERYONE will be wearing jumpsuits in the future."

Its an easy costume that emulates pilots or astronauts. Sigourney Weaver complained tht her initial wardrobe for ALIEN made her look like JackieO in space, so she had them find her some old Nasa coveralls.

If you look back to WWII , the armyy wouldve loved to put everyone into jumpsuits or coveralls. In Band of Brothers, you see troops training in them.
But if you wear a set, its a complete hassle when nature calls.

FifthElement's costume design was by Jean-Paul Gaultier
I believe the first time a big designer did a sci-fi movie.

In the future, everything will be hairy!:

I'm no fashion expert either on fashion or future. I did once write an annual paper on interior design in the Star Ship Enterprise and the Borg ship. But I didn't care about the clothing. Real geek!

As far as future style goes, I have always thought that "Firefly" had a really interesting mixture of looks - a cool blend of vintage, Old West, Asian and futuristic looks, with some other little things mixed in here and there. The clothing really adds to the show in a nice, subtle way.

The future of fashion is going to continue be akin to poorly handled political campaigns, insubstantial and revolting yet difficult to stop watching like a train wreck shown in slow motion.

Style will always have a backlash undercurrent like a revolution brewing.

Fads will remain deeply seated in MTV until all satelite tv is wiped out by an alien invasion. After that we all dress like in "Planet of the Apes" for a thousand years.

Get your stinking paws off me you dirty ape!

The Firefly style is very nice, especially Simon's hehe.

You can't go wrong with that, tie and vest.

Best, M.

You can if your shirt is showing under the vest and your collar is sitting on top of it.

Hehe, I am sure he was ruffed up a bit by Mal just before the photo was taken.
