You might check the indy site but last I heard was $500. There is also talk of coming out with a factory produced Adventurebuilt that would be at a lower price point.

That would be very attractive. I'd love an Adventurebilt, but that kind of money is way over an above what I could reasonably justify spending on it. A factory-run option would be interesting. As it is, I'm hoping after Christmas to get myself an Akubra Fed Deluxe. I'll *probably* put a Raiders bash in it, bearing in mind i'm wanting to get the Raiders version of the jacket (though with the bigger inner pocket... I still want a Grail Diary....).

Who's saying Indy kept the same jacket for 20 years (or the same hat, for that matter)? Couldn't he have replaced each with similar models over the years?

lol Yeah, that's what I always figured. He had both hat and jacket intact at the end of Temple (1935), presumably they were the same items worn in Raiders (1936).... I'm sure I remember both being lost in the submarine base when he switches into the Nazi uniform? (it's been a while...). Then they would have been replaced by Crusade in 1938.... Seems to me that the whole outfit was of a basic style that would have been easily repalced right throughout that period. A bit like how a basic pair of jeans and a Brando mc (as worn by the son) could have been repalced at anytime during a very long chunk of the twentieth century with pretty much the same items, give or take the odd detail.

Going from memory, looks to me a lot like the Last Crusade jacket with the studs on the storm flap, but I'm sure it's the longer length of the Temple jacket?

I wonder how they'll introduce the jacket.... it seems to me that in this film, it may have been many years since Indy did any adventuring, given the soundbite in the trailer - "I don't take than kind of work anymore" - will he pull the jacket out of the back of the closet like an old suit of armour, or will we get to see him going shopping for a new one (that could be fun!).

I presume we'll get some background on what he's been up to in the intervening period..... I wonder whether he served in WW2.... did he do something bwhind enemy lines in relation to the Nazis and their dabbling with occult artefacts in the war effort, maybe...?

The hat looks great. I would have preferred a Raiders style pinch. I have to give a big thumbs down to the jacket. It looks like a brand new, pre distressed type. The finish is so uniform and even. A fully hand distressed jacket would have looked much better as seen in the earlier films. This one has that just off the rack look. I know cowhide is "realistic" but this is a movie. The lamb jackets from the earlier films looked much better on screen. Still, good to see Ford back where he belongs.

It's the '50's, and I figger Indy should have a horsehide A2 or a typical horsehide/cowhide 40's/50's style waist length jacket with the cinches on the sides, slash pockets and a "smokes" pocket on the left breast, and a hat with a teardrop/cross dent/diamond crown.....

I just think its so cool to have another film on the way.
As to everything 'matching' up to 1936. I know my taste has changed a whole lot in the last 20 years. Some things are almost the same. But others are so different.
Take Indys hat, in the years since the film came out, you can no longer get a hat like the one he had in Raiders. THAT IS A GIVEN. [AB excluded]
SO IF THIS WAS REAL LIFE... there would be things that he would have to change, hat..jacket ,shoes ect. He would try and get a hat or jacket like he favored but if there was none he would get one that was as close as he could find. I know that is the way I shop for things I like and want to replace.

Perhaps they'll have a joke on that in the film;someone remarks that he's been wearing the same clothes for 25+years.

The internet probably would have come to a crashing halt if it was revealed that his new hat was...a porkpie!

Not entirely accurate--remember what the old knight said about crossing the seal in the Grail room's floor? "That is the boundary--and the price--of immortality..."

Where did you see the trailer for IJ4? I went to Beowulf with the wife expecting to see it, and it wasn't there, nor has it popped up on IMDB or anywhere else that I've found.

Personally, I think the costume looks pretty good. Let's think about this: as much abuse as his jacket (along with everything else) took over the years, he may well have just got a new one; how many of us have worn something out and gone back years later to buy the exact same thing? Same could be said of the shirt and pants; anybody else notice the pants are hemmed by hand and that he hitches them up a little bit more than he used to? And he's not wearing the moc-toe Aldens anymore. And then there's the hat... THE hat IMHO. That was what brought me here, and that is my ultimate fedora. I'm just praying Steve will have it done by the time the movie rolls out. I'm still looking forward to someday cooking up something with Art Fawcett and/or picking up a vintage Playboy or Open Road, but the Indy hat is (to me) the ultimate fedora. For the simple reason that the first several times I even heard the word 'fedora' was when it had to do with Indiana Jones. I can't wait...

I entirely agree that in reality there would have been more of a change in what was available to him in his wardrobe, and he'd probably not have been so fixated on the idea of picking up perfect matches. I've long imagined that the IJ adverturing gear was what Jones had established was practicval in the field - he'd simply have replaced it with something similarly functional. On the other hand, given there are "old man shops" still around today that cater to what our parents generation would prefer to wear still instead of the fashion trends of the moment, wouldn't that have been possible in the 50s too?

Of course, we also have to factor in the iconic value of his wardrobe. These things are an established trademark of the film - sometimes you have to sacrifice complete realism for style in a film.... can you imagine the outcry if Indy wore a different jacket?

No arguments on any of that!

There's no need to apply logic or reason to Indy's clothing. He's an iconic movie hero. He has to wear what is essentially the same costume. It's a tradition that goes back to the 30's and 40's serials that Indy is based on. Originally, the serial heroes always wore the same distinctive outfits because it made it them stand out and made it easy to edit and recycle footage. The scene of Zorro riding off from Chapter 2 could be reused in Chapter 10 to save a buck. A first season shot of Roy Rogers leaping from his horse could be reused in later seasons because he always wore the same clothes. This has carried down over the years in fantasy entertainment. Ever notice that Bo and Luke Duke always wore the exact same clothes for 6 years and even in the reunion shows that were done 15+ years later? It gets to be a bit of an in-joke. In the horrible Last Action Hero, Arnold soils his trademark hero costume and opens his closet to reveal that it's filled with nothing but identical leather jackets, shirts, jeans and boots. Fantasy heroes really didn't start changing clothes until action figures and collectible marketing came into play after Star Wars. One Roy Rogers doll would last a childhood but with Luke Skywalker, you also need to get the one with Bespin fatigues, Hoth gear, Jedi robes, ect. Collect them all!
