Some of you may recall a thread I started awhile back where I wondered if one could do an Optimo block, traditionally seen applied to Panamas, in felt. As it turned out, the mysterious analogist had already blazed the trail with his Casablanca model.
As you know, thinking about these things too much can be dangerous, especially when Art is capable of making your imagination come alive. Well, a few extra dollars fell into my lap recently so I took the plunge and placed the order. What I basically wanted was a felt version of the Panama Bob Montecristi that Art blocked for me over the summer. I conceived it as the sort of thing a Southern gentleman might wear when the temperatures drop a bit, and in keeping with my avatar I have dubbed it 'The Faulkner'. I gave Art some idea of what I wanted with the ribbon, and as always he took that and made it better than I imagined. The felt is dress weight Mojave, the brim is 2 9/16", crown 4 1/4".
Art described the hat as 'elegant'. I agree.
